I believe that picture of the ecu board to be a UK board. But you can't tell its a prodrive by looking at it. If you get it running you can get an idea by what boost its running, it should be around 15.6 psi peak. But you'll need to read the files to be sure. I've not done this so you'll need advise on that. But if the car is UK and the ecu is UK and the ecu doesn't start the car where the old one did then that ecu don't look good. Send it back before its too late to do a claim.

Some early Prodrive boards weren't EcuTeke'd at all...They had what was effectively a FCD mounted inside the case onto the board.It was a mappable FCD in that it was manufactured by GEMS and had the code SUB 44 V1.47. That board does not have that.

The correct PPP ecu was on ebay the other day and i told spe1973 and he said the one he had was identical but had different numbers so i think it is time to give up as the numbers are everything when identifying an ecu assuming it has not been messed with and put it down to experience that the ecu he bought off ebay could be anything and potentially could damage his engine if he ever got it running.

That ecu is a MY99-00 UK/European ECU (not P1 though) and the label indicates it is a PPP. So all correct.
Its not a JDM since the climate control module is not there and has never been fitted.

So basically I suspect its no good as it should simply plug in and run the car.

Maybe someone tried to map it (EcuTek dealer) and bricked it, in that case the car would crank but not start, the fuel pump will not prime either.

Thanks for all the replies, the guy I brought the prodrive ecu has told me that he don't do returns cos its an electric item,gonna mail him again later,noticed he has more subaru parts on e bay so if I get no joy I,ll name and shame him

Assuming you used PayPal to pay then open a PayPal resolution case straight away, dont bother going through ebay. As item does not work as described. As soon as you can then escalate it to a PayPal claim. That may get him to respond. If not it could get messy and you would need evidence of the ecu being faulty. A letter headed by an auto electrician or mapper should be sufficient then there's an option to send it to PayPal for review.

As a cross check do you have a mate or know anyone with a MY99 or MY00 UK car that you could plug it into? If so and it still doesn't work you have a cross confirmation as additional data when claiming your money back.

Hi bob , pretty sure it's dead , no pump prime noise , and the check light is flashing during cranking
I know that there are a lot of dodgy folk but still find it hard to believe someone would sell a dead ecu ( maybe I'm to trusting )
The op could have drove from Nottingham to Banstead and tried the ecu , and it wouldn't have worked , so that in itself would have been an expense
I wonder how the seller would have got round that scenario ( probably insisted on post only)
Btw bob what is the general procedure when a company bricks an ecu with ecutek , do you have to sign a disclaimer or are you compensated. ?
Also am i correct in guessing not all ecus are recoverable from being bricked with ecutek

Btw we don't know anyone with the same car to try it on , it's gonna be an uphill struggle for a refund I'm sure

I bought a dead ecu off the bay. Got my money back in the end though after about two months and loads of messing around. Getting evidence is the hard part in writing. Especially as the seller could claim the op must have damaged it or it got damaged in the post.

What happened to this ecu in the end? I've just seen it on eBay - this exact ecu ending tonight . listed as a Subaru impreza sti ecu. I've found out though that this is a forester ecu which is why it won't work on an impreza.

It got shipped back to the seller mate , and a refund was given
I questioned the seller about the ecu being back up for sale and he maintains its a different ecu ( not the returned one )
Either way whatever it is I would warn anyone to steer clear

I agree. Not worth the hassle. The one I saw on eBay has exactly the same numbers . The same scratches and stains and rust on the edge and wear on the bolt marks.

But it may work in a forester.
