Here's my initial research copied from the RA forum where we had a discussion around the subject.

Ok to business...

Ive been searching and reading up on rust treatment etc today and Dinitrol really seems to keep appearing when I search and appears to have a grat name in the coating and rust treatment areas.

I'm using the Frost web site for referance as it's quite comprehensive, so basic rust idea is to cure it and stop any you have spreading, with my inner sills I am going to assume there will be some surface patches that are out of sight and that I will not be able to see so this I feel could be the first step to take...

http://www.frost.co.uk/dinitrol-conv...r-aerosol.html

I'm looking for all to be aerosol cans as for me that is my option as I do not have a compressor or any gns to use etc.

Next step could be a choice of two, also extension nozzles are available for getting deep inside the shell.
The one thing I need to double check is the finish colour as I'm sure one below is a black finish which will be ok fir the inner sills.

http://www.frost.co.uk/dinitrol-3125-hs-500ml.html

http://www.frost.co.uk/dinitrol-ml-p...kin-500ml.html

Extension...

http://www.frost.co.uk/extension-hose-60cm.html

This is a clear finish which could possibly be considered for inside the doors and boot interior around the arches.
I'm nervous about going to mad in the doors with a substance that will bulk in volume as you could possibly cause more bad than good by harbouring the inner door drainage so if I applied anything in there it would need to be clear and a thin coating.

Another interesting web site with plenty of info...

After taking with Ade who had personal experience with Bilthamber S50 I purchased the one can for my inner sills.

http://www.bilthamber.com/dynax-s50

All I need to do now is get a neutraliser for any scab that's in there before I apply the S50
If brands mix I'm thinking of the converter from Dinitrol but I'll see what BiltHamber offer first.

Did you see the thread I started on rust treatment recommendations . The following link was posted there http://www.auson.se/sites/default/fi...nthly_uk_0.pdf

No I had not seen that I'll have a look through it.

Ok so I started my inner sill preventive maintainance today... First stage is a coat of Dinitrol rust converter sprayed into the inner sills, this will penetrate into every area to convert and neutralise any rust already lurcking. Stage two will follow tomorrow.

I just read the whole thread, awesome work mate. :)
Defenitly a lot work gone into the car.

Do you have any more plans for it, or is it as good as done now?

Easy when you see how Joe... I'll probably drop the rest of the can in there at some point when it's dry as a second coat.

Your RA did look great at the On your marks charity day :notworthy :thumb:

Did you take it on track? What would I need to do to get on the track for next year's event?

Regards,

Subaru Collector 555.

Awesome car this, great to see it in the flesh Sunday, the underneath sooo clean

Regarding the rust proofing, where did you get the Dinitrol etc from? Is there an alternative that isn't £25 a can or is it worth it for the quality of the product? You've inspired me to do mine now just pricing up options.

Paul

No track for me... As far as I'm aware you simply fill the form in and they send you a track pass then your on.

Hi Paul I had it off eBay there are other makes available at difference prices but I decided to us this after talking to a couple of people that have used it.

Ok covered a few more steps just lately...

First off I have changed the colour of my spare set of wheels to matt balck.

Much happier with the colour and I think it will work well on the car, just rattle cans so I can always have a change when I want to now.

Also had a pro shoot done showing the car at it's very best...

Yes I bet a brand new car like this 20 years ago would have been a sight to see for sure.

Purchased a decal for my strut brace yesterday :)

Smart Arse :hjtwofing OK winter/park up wheels :D

The car will do a few miles on them but not to many in reality.

frayz 24 September 2015 12:14 PM

Largely given up commenting on your car Si because frankly ive run out of things to say. Its truly a superb example and thoroughly deserves all the praise and compliments its receives. A testament to you vison, hard work and impecable attention to detail.
A car that any Subaru/rally enthusiast would be proud to own and drive.
The black wheels really look smart on it and are a superb contrast for the chillier months. However on the gold Revs it looks simply perfect.

Other than the engine, theres simply nothing id bother changing.

Although (Splitting hairs i know) maybe get the AC pump off over winter and get the AC clutch re zinc coated?

Are you still contemplating breathing on the engine at all?

The only breathing he does on the engine is when it is followed by a microfibre cloth to remove a slight blemish :lol1:

frayz 24 September 2015 12:27 PM

i like the OEM+ style to Simons modifications so far. So maybe a full newage JDM twinscroll swap would be lovely or id be tempted to get an S5/S6 WRC style cooling package made up and aim for a mega responsive 400bhp ;)
