Highest mileage

I've just got my 04 WRX and want to keep it for a long time (project!) it's done 74k how many miles can these engines do, anyone know of any insane mileaged Scoobies?

Thanks

I think this has already been done mate... have a quick search. An engine will last as long as you want it too within reason as long as you look after it.

Saw this on here the other day

I'm on 145k now and believe me , my car is nothing but a test hack that does nothing but get mapped , get thrashed , and generally abused
And still refuses to die

RedScoob 18 November 2012 12:53 PM

185k here. Look after them and they last forever, even when used to their full potential.

toneh 18 November 2012 01:03 PM

I read a post somewhere , I think nasioc and a guy mentioned 250k ( not rebuilt )
That's some going IMHO

mjharper 18 November 2012 01:31 PM

Wow, good to know she has a long life ahead if I treat her well :)

Berks-Jack 18 November 2012 02:59 PM

A friend has a sport that passed 250k earlier in the year. I know its not getting quite the same stress put on it as a wrx or STI but still bloody impressive :)

lee67 18 November 2012 05:38 PM

ive seen sports with 400k plus:thumb:

RobsyUK 18 November 2012 05:54 PM

I would love to see this question on a taxi / buss forum.
On a jeep in Animal Kingdon (Florida) that just drove round the park all day was showing over 300k Obviously I don't know the history of it but just doing 1 or 2 miles constantly soon adds up.

I'm on 155 on a bugeye wagon spent £3000 this yearn servicing so hopefully got a few miles left in her lol

DaveD 18 November 2012 08:03 PM

MY93 WRX, has around 240,000 miles on it. Changed the original clutch at 140,000 miles, so should have around another 40,000 on this one!
I imported the car in 2000, when it had only 46,000 miles on it. It's spent most of its UK life decatted and remapped for the last 6 or so years. Doesn't quite get the regular abuse that it did, but still does pretty well for a 19 year old car!

mjharper 18 November 2012 08:14 PM

That's pretty impressive!

wesleeburns-2009 18 November 2012 08:29 PM

I've just bought a uk turbo 2000 with170k and it dnt miss a beat wasn't going to keep it long but what the hell it's running sweet
Lived on castrol all it's life and been service by Subaru every 10k I dnt hang around see how it last ;)

mjharper 12 February 2013 01:55 PM

So mileage isn't really an issue then if you keep the car well maintained?

his-n-her-scoobs 12 February 2013 06:25 PM

The photo above is mine. Now on 177k on original engine but 3rd box.

Basic maintenance aside, I think it's luck of the draw. My wifes near identical car was treated exactly the same during our ownership (right down to the same mods even) and it lunched 2 engines in the 50,000 miles we had it.

That's why I have a garage with a spare engine, gearbox, back axle, driveshafts, you name it :)

:)

lord shaun 83 12 February 2013 06:51 PM

ive just past the 160,000 mark today..

mjharper 12 February 2013 07:49 PM

Awesome!

DaveD 12 February 2013 09:45 PM

Mine's now failed its MoT, need to decide whether I can justify spending a grand on a quarter-of-a-million miles car? :(
Requires steering rack, shocks, brake service and attention to the dreaded rear arches.....

angryscooby 12 February 2013 09:59 PM

In Finland I have seen many impreza turbos with 300.000+ in kilometers and my grandfathers friend has forester with 580.000 in kilometers. That forester is 1998 GX still running without rebuild but I think it will need it soon :D
