I think this has already been done mate... have a quick search. An engine will last as long as you want it too within reason as long as you look after it.

I'm on 145k now and believe me , my car is nothing but a test hack that does nothing but get mapped , get thrashed , and generally abused
And still refuses to die

185k here. Look after them and they last forever, even when used to their full potential.

A friend has a sport that passed 250k earlier in the year. I know its not getting quite the same stress put on it as a wrx or STI but still bloody impressive

I would love to see this question on a taxi / buss forum.
On a jeep in Animal Kingdon (Florida) that just drove round the park all day was showing over 300k Obviously I don't know the history of it but just doing 1 or 2 miles constantly soon adds up.

MY93 WRX, has around 240,000 miles on it. Changed the original clutch at 140,000 miles, so should have around another 40,000 on this one!
I imported the car in 2000, when it had only 46,000 miles on it. It's spent most of its UK life decatted and remapped for the last 6 or so years. Doesn't quite get the regular abuse that it did, but still does pretty well for a 19 year old car!

So mileage isn't really an issue then if you keep the car well maintained?

The photo above is mine. Now on 177k on original engine but 3rd box.

Basic maintenance aside, I think it's luck of the draw. My wifes near identical car was treated exactly the same during our ownership (right down to the same mods even) and it lunched 2 engines in the 50,000 miles we had it.

That's why I have a garage with a spare engine, gearbox, back axle, driveshafts, you name it

Mine's now failed its MoT, need to decide whether I can justify spending a grand on a quarter-of-a-million miles car?
Requires steering rack, shocks, brake service and attention to the dreaded rear arches.....

In Finland I have seen many impreza turbos with 300.000+ in kilometers and my grandfathers friend has forester with 580.000 in kilometers. That forester is 1998 GX still running without rebuild but I think it will need it soon
