okay, so it's probably dumb, but what is ISO Connection???
thinking of replacing the head unit with a basic cd player - some have ISO connection - some don't - what's the deal, does the philips standard fit have iso connections? - what's easiest thing to do? oh, and i'm assuming that if the new head unit doesn't fit the connections i can probebly buy a universal connector or something??? HELP - this is bl**dy annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
ISO means International Organisation for Standardisation. It is also a "clever" acronym as iso is Greek for "equal" or "constant".
In terms of your real question, it just means an industry standard plug as opposed to one unique to Philips. Duncan PS I've got a Philips 6 CD Player I could sell you for £75 that'll plug into your existing Head Unit no problem. |
right... as in iso 9000 and all that jazz - thanks!
still a tad confused though, does the philips unit have this? (is that what the two blocks on the left side of the unit are?) |
Youn don't mention which model/year you have, but on my MY99 yes both the car and the Philips have ISO connectors.
Best bet is to post your car, so someone can clarify the cars connectors. You can always get convertors if your decide to buy a headunit with or without one. These plug into an ISO socket http://www.clarionworld.co.uk/images/iso.jpg Stefan [Edited by ozzy - 5/13/2002 4:27:28 PM] [Edited by ozzy - 5/13/2002 4:28:27 PM] [Edited by ozzy - 5/13/2002 4:41:37 PM] |
You can also see what they look like here http://speedcentral.org.uk/ice/howto...er.pl?headunit
Here's the ISO connector in my MY99 Impreza http://www.hosw08898.pwp.blueyonder....ages/ice_4.jpg Stefan |
ozzy, thanks that's very helpful... i've got an my00, and it looks just like your image, that's great as it means that changing the head unit won't be too difficult (he says!)
thanks again |
just looking at the image again, what's the black thick cable on the right hand side???
(mine has this too, is it power perhaps? |
The black thick cable circled in the above picture is the aerial.
|
oh right, thanks man
|
Chiark is correct as usual :)
The other blue cable running behind the aerial is my Alpine CD-Changer control cable. So, if you get yourself a new Headunit with ISO connectors, you just plug it in and away you go - yes, it's that simple. Stefan [Edited by ozzy - 5/14/2002 10:29:22 AM] |
