Garrett GT30 BHP prediction

Looking for a prediction as to what BHP my set up would acheive when mapped.

Sti7 with the following:

Standard top mount
Aeromotive FPR
Pink injectors decapped
3'' turbo back exhaust heatwrapped
ported headers and uppipe
ported throttle body
GT3076R turbo

Also thinking of going down the rotated turbo route along with FMIC

Predictions on both set ups please (hoping for 450-500)

Going to go for a similar set-up so would like to know too. Subscribed

Personally I'd have 650cc squirters and an FMIC for those figures.

But yeah, it's possible, turbo output and engine condition are the questionable factors. But between 400-500bhp could be done. All depends on how much you wanna spend.

McFartenplop 02 November 2012 12:08 PM

I was hoping the fpr set to 3bar and the pinks decapped would give me close to 1000cc?

Fmic is an option if the standard intercooler is restricting at 400

bustaMOVEs 02 November 2012 12:26 PM

Don't reckon you'll reach 500 more like 450 on v power map, but maybe more on meth or race fuel.
But if you do go rotated then 500 is achievable .

subnoobX 02 November 2012 12:58 PM

can you run this turbo on standard internals efficiently?
Also at what power do the standard internals of a Blob STI need upgrading? Around 260kw at the wheels?

There ain't gonna be a definitive answer for that question IMO fella, there are plenty pushing high power levels, just look at the standard internal power board to see some results, mine is currently at 453 on stock motor and hoping for a little more with a meth mix, but no 2 cars are ever exactly alike, there have been motors pushing 500bhp on stock bottom end and by all accounts took a bit of abuse :thumb: just luck of the draw and whether or not you have a little mechanical sympathy towards it lol, as giving the car a brutal time constantly it ain't gonna last too long ;)

453 is a choice number! I am hoping for around 425bhp on stock internals but a lot of people say its good to upgrade to forged bits etc, but thats assuming its going to be taking a lot of abuse at a really high power right?

Check out this link if you ain't already

It will give you a bit of insight as to what people are running, mine has been at this level for over 2 years now, it's not driven like a looney constantly and there is a bit of mechanical sympathy with me, but don't take that as I don't give it a boot full because I do :D who wants that much power not to use it, that's just rude IMO :lol1: but constantly having your foot down or giving it a proper hiding constantly then I would expect it to break is the honest answer, who wouldn't :wonder:

Yes forged is a no brained in certain respects but its what you want the car for, if its purely a road car then IMO its not needed but I am prepared should mine go wrong to get it done to a better spec with a set of pistons and rods etc, but won't entertain it unless I need to, If you want bigger power levels than what most are running on standard internals then yes forged is the best way to go, but what's he point if its only on the road, you can't use it all :nono: ;) :lol1:

finallyaname 02 November 2012 02:19 PM

Would a 3076 fit in stock location? Had always presumed you'd need to rotate?

Infected by sti 02 November 2012 02:23 PM

I believe you can run a gt30 in stock position yes. I think it works better rotated tho hence why most do it

It's for mostly road use and occasionally I might take it down the quarter =D
But if the power is required for a road pull then it better be there hahah
Yeah I have the money for the forged bits but I want to spend ONLY if its necessary. Might just try that.

I would go for the rotated option to make the most use of the turbo =)

Infected by sti 02 November 2012 02:41 PM

I can assure you that a 450 road car won't disappoint :thumb: the speed you catch cars in front of you tbh can be frightening if you ain't got your wits about you, you stick your toe down and before you know it your riding the rear end of the car in front! Stuck your foot down to over take and it's done in the blink of an eye without having to drop a gear if your cruising at motorway speeds, I think you will enjoy it, especially if your going from standard form ( or near enough ) to a 450 car, you ain't gonna know what hit you ;)

banny sti 02 November 2012 02:47 PM

you can get a stock position GT30 cored turbo but a GT3076R has a T3 flange and needs to be fitted in a rotated position with an external wastegate

Infected by sti 02 November 2012 03:06 PM

Is the GT3076r a better unit than the standard position unit Banny? Or does the rotated set up help ( regardless of the t3 flange issue ) interested in this myself :) and would the standard position GT30 benefit if if was rotated?

banny sti 02 November 2012 04:14 PM

Had both and the power delivery and all round drive of the rotated 30R was much better, not much gain from rotating a standard position turbo.

All Lateral Performance MD,Turbo Dynamics MD or SC(from SC42) are based on the GT30 core, they usually using as exhaust housing IHI or their custom

GT30 cored with a 76mm intake housing will not fit straight onto a newage. Be ready to do some grinding if you're doing it yourself. It will foul big time!

The way you are describing it, its got a massive grin on my face hahaha
I cant wait till I get my hands on a black JDM Blob STI next year, I am going to try to go for the GTX so I see spool a bit faster hehe.
I wont abuse the car so hopefully standard internals get me through and if not then rebuild time haha so ill leave some cash aside for that.

Cheers for the info bud!

Hi guys have been reading the comments on here about running the GT30 rotated. I was curious as to how the same turbo would make more power just because it was rotated. I was originally under the impression that these turbo where rotated because or their large size and rotating reduced turbo lag. Can someone explain how it provides more power by doing this. Or is it just that you get your power lower down the rev range..

Anyone ??

banny sti 03 November 2012 05:53 PM

They are not the same turbo as the standard position use a subaru exhaust housing and the rotated turbo has its own exhaust housing allowing better flow
