Insurance at 21?
Hi guys,
Need a little bit of help. I'm a newbie be patient but, I'm due to look at and possibly buy a uk turbo 2000 v reg tomorrow and the only problem left is insuring it! I'm 21 with 2 years experience and 3 years no claims but i do have a ts10 which is unfortunately 3 points :/ So far my best quote is around 2200 on moneysupermarket.com but I know there must be a way of getting it cheaper, any suggestions? |
try elephant/bell or admiral, they used to get me the best price at that age
|
I insured my when I was 22 in a high risk post code for 1800.
I was with tesco but I believe they are no longer competitive. Try the usual suspects - Swinton specialists, a plan and Keith Michael's |
Cost me £1900 on my uk turbo at 22 with 5 years no claims , my sti now costs me 2200 at 23 with 6 Years that's with a f

my sti blob at 21 is costing me £2500 with 3 ncb, be wary of online quotes tho as i got 1 for £1300 before i bought the car, the day i went to insure on my 21st bday i was strugling to get insured as they were saying the min age is 25 on that type of car! im with elephant btw it took me 2 hours on the phone for them to agree to cover me! it looks like its getting harder for youngsters to insure impreza again!

I got my first and only impreza when i was 21
Still got it now although the missis drivez it 99% of the time! I was first with elephant and it cost me around 2k. Well worth it in my opinion |
It will depend heavily on your post code but that price seems about right for your age. You either pay the piper or get another car.

Got a quote last week modded STI classic Adrian Flux.
46 yrs young, 9 yrs no claims, clean licence, tracker, cat1 and live in a nice part of the world.. £9030. Admiral £600 |
Was that an online quote or over the phone?

Phone

Talking from experience - If its your first Impreza prepare to have your pants down and the lube ready as you will struggle to insure it cheaply for the 1st year at least, most companys like you to have at least 1yrs experience driving them or similar cars, some even want you to have experience of driving one over a winter. Comparison sites may give good quotes, but when you phone them to go ahead with the policy they start moving the goal posts, wanting you to have owned it for over a year etc. Best quote i got for my 1st Turbo 2000 was with Right Choice Insurance. Good luck and as said, you either pay up or find another car unfortunately!
|
Its just the price you have to pay when your young, but still want to drive a quick car they just run the statistics and I'm afraid to say they are stacked up against you, when I was 19 I paid £1940 for insurance on a Renault 5 gt turbo and thats 21 years ago, anyway try to phone around all the insurance companies that specialise in performance cars KM,SKY,insurance factory,Adrian flux,etc.....

Im 23 with 3 years ncb. I pay £1000 with elephant for a 53 plate STI blob PPP. Make sure u have a parent as a named driver. That works for lowering the price for me all the time.
At 22 i had 2y ncb and had an audi s4 4.2 V8. That was £1200 with admiral and had 5 points on my license I use go compare normaly to get quotes. But really your postcode is the key factor in the price. |

Only just moved up here. When i had the S4 i was living in a south london postcode. (Croydon) which is bad for insurance id say. But yes now i have a very good postcode on insurance terms lol

Just wait until your old enough to get cheap insurance.. or just accept that you're not going to get a good deal on insuring an Impreza at your age and pay £2200 |
As above, either bite the bullet and pay the money as it won't be much cheaper, or look at a different car for a few years which is cheaper to insure. I done the second/sensible option and now I'm 24, 7 years ncb and paying £680 on a blobeye wrx wagon with all the insurance extras and my other half insured. Just be patient, put money to the side each month, and in a few years you can buy a mint impreza and not get ripped off with insurance!!

im 25, got a 2003 wrx ppp, 6 years ncb, but a sp30.
my cheapest quote was 1780, but after being on the phone ended up 2600!! eeeeeek |

ne40 is a bad postcode aparently, apart from the village i live in is the quietest place in the world lol must be lots of car thievs nd whiplash claims in the area hahaha
|
Blaydon isn't an NE40 postcode. You must live further out, more Ryton way.
