Would you buy a Bugeye STI for £4000?
Well seeing as they are the best bang for buck deal atm what are peoples though on ones around £4000?
Such as - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/4057012.htm, looks a clean example. I'm thinking of chopping my classic in soon but want a car that I no can cope with 300+ horses. |
looks a nice car... and cheap, i got £6000 for my white wrx bugeye a year ago
|
The vote doesn`t work. I was gonna vote, no they`re still minging :thumb:
|
I would
|
simply no, would rather take the classic
|
Here is a link to my bug sti I sold back in January-
https://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-444...preza-sti.html Here is what it looked like- http://home.mobile.de/SKY-AUTOMOBILE#des_156142749 It sold for £4500 in the end....... |
I thought about getting a 4k bug sti for about 20 seconds. Then decided I would rather pay another 2700 for a Blobeye that was only 4 months younger and had a few less miles on the clock.. So I did and I'm glad I did. If I had 4K to spend on a scooby it would be a nice classic T2000 with good spec. You can find a nice classic with better than bug STi spec easy.
Bugs are filthy |
I do like the prodrive style ones, but I would still have a bug sti if 4k is what I have available to spend. They are still much stronger than a classic with 5 speed etc. we all have to work within budget and the answer of putting another 2.7k to it to get a blob is not always possible. I would have liked a hawk jdm but settles on a widetrack blob as that's what I had the money for.
|
I'd have a Prodrive Bug over a Classic.
|
The ugly bug look is easily fixed with Morette head lights. Then they look good and I would.
|
£4000 is cheap and being white helps it more.
However, I think I remember someone from here viewing that car and reporting that it was an absolute dog. |
I paid 4500 for mine with 52k on the clock.
|
i got a prodrive bug mate and every one used to say how much they hated bugs but now every says that they love the look of mine and i wouldn change it for anything
|
The ugly bug look can easily be made to look a lot worse by fitting morette headlights in my opinion.
|
Nowt wrong with a bug STi for 4k, it will cost you 1500 quid to put a 6-speed in your classic, Then you get brembos over the 4 pots, just needs a map to make 330/330 with reliability, Unlike the classic with crappy 4 pots and chocolate box :D

Bug is good for if you up for going bigger power in the future. But it's heavier, lazier.... bug with 330/330 would be outhandeled by a classic sti 330/330 , at this power a classic impreza is a very capable car ;)
|
It's a better base to start from over a classic with the better engine/box/brakes, The classic might feel quicker but it soon suffers from brake fade, As Jay said its all down to power to weight not handling and the bug STi is the best value for money impreza you can buy, You can strip and break them and get over £4k for them, All IMO of course :D
|
The real question is would you?
It will be your cash and your car. For the record, I love my bug! :luvlove: |
I had one for 5 years, Nothing wrong with a bug :thumb:
|
The love bug !...great motors..how can ya not like em. Ps if its the lights that sway your decision you can't see em when your driving. :-)

That was my thought when i got mine the interior is the same as any oher scoob lol and mine is running 370bhp and no probs at all with it |
The Bugeye RA at Hurst cars is the nicest Subaru ive seen forsale on PH since Kenny's RA-R.
Superb Spec, nice looking car with brutal potential all in one package. Would i buy a UK Bugeye STi? Would i f*ck. The lack of DCCD is a major turn off for me. If it had it then yes. I don't like the look of them out the box but that RA forsale on PH demonstrates they can be made into a looker. It would cost far too much to make me like a UK Bug, same goes for a narrow track Blobeye. Only newage UK Scoob i'd have is the Widetrack Blob. |
P.S its not the front end that puts me off, with morrettes or JDM lights i like them just as much as the Hawkeye. Its a mixture of the dated looking backend & interior ect. It just looks really cheap compared to a widetrack in my opinion. The classic on the other hand looks dated in a nice old skool kind of way.
Reliability in mind though, yes they are worth every part of £4k. |
I like a nice bug ......

In my opinion it's either an STI RA or Type R, obviously for outright fun.
My point was you get a hell of a lot of car for your money with a bug sti in terms of what it comes with and for the price no other Impreza comes close. IVe owned two RA's and a Bug STi so talk from experience...;) ...............and i disagree that the UK bug is an ugly car, i loved mine...before i stripped it..:lol1: http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/y...9-25102534.jpg |
Bang for buck the best Impreza sti. Also has one of the strongest engines out of the box;)
