1993 wrx stock internals

Hi Guys,

I have just registered here and i havent got a lot of knowledge on scubby's at all. I have seen a scubby for sale locally, its a 1993 import, pushing around 340 bhp. What is the maximum for the stock internals to be at without compromising reliability?

Thanks!!

marcevs72 14 July 2012 02:57 PM

about 40 less than that mate....over 300 and should really be forged.

ajuj12 14 July 2012 03:03 PM

so is there a chance the engine is already damaged or would not last long?

I went and tested it, sounds sweet as hell and there is a lot of power too pushing around 14psi on a td06 turbo

Only reason i ask is

http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/index2.html

"Below is a brief summary of our progress and race wins over the past 10 years

Our 440 Bhp 2.0 litre MY 95 WRX RA held the UK ¼ mile record for over two years running stock internals. "

marcevs72 14 July 2012 03:21 PM

i think the ra has forged internals same as the sti so can handle more power.a standard ej20 engine is good for 300 ish but on an old car its on borrowed time.i know mine is a 93 wrx the original engine lasted 61k before bottom end going despite being looked after and that was about 300bhp.

ajuj12 14 July 2012 03:23 PM

So its a no go then? Would you recommend going for it? Its been running for a couple of years like that i believe!

marcevs72 14 July 2012 03:32 PM

put up a link to the car and let us have a look.there are people with more expertise on here than me.so all helps and if its been done properly and mapped by a decent mapper then might be worth it.

lovely mate...look at the fact that car has fibreglass bodykit so will at some time crack and need repairing, plus for the money there are nicer ones about.dont let a decent power figure sway you or the fact that it is local.spend time and wait for the right car.
check cars for sale on here.there is a nice 98 terzo for £50 more than that for sale with all the right bits.
best advice is dont rush to buy one of these, espcially at that price for a 93 classic.

Were you being sarcastic when you were saying the lovely bit? :P

marcevs72 14 July 2012 04:17 PM

yep....lol

ajuj12 14 July 2012 06:03 PM

So overall is it that bad a choice?

Adam-M 14 July 2012 06:26 PM

Its chavy looking to me mate, wouldn't touch it.

ajuj12 14 July 2012 06:28 PM

and what if you look at it in the mods etc perspective.

Adam-M 14 July 2012 06:34 PM

Well this is the way i look at it, if someone is daft enough to make an Impreza look like that then their daft enough to not maintain it and abuse it.
No mention of a remap so 1. i doubt its running over 300bhp 2. it won't last much longer.

Its a dog mate, the flamer kit says it all.

ajuj12 14 July 2012 06:36 PM

alright, thanks for the advice, its out of the equation now!

Adam-M 14 July 2012 06:39 PM

Good choice, don't get me wrong the new owner seems to have spent a bit but in my opinion it needs a whole lot more. That is me trying to be reasonable and look past the bad styling.

Keep your options open mate, personally i'd avoid looking on eBay.

ajuj12 14 July 2012 06:40 PM

As i said i did go and check it out, it was just so damn powerful and the engine sounded sweet as hell!

ajuj12 15 July 2012 09:23 AM

what if this car was going for around 1700-1800? would it be worth it?

ajuj12 15 July 2012 06:45 PM

well i was looking at power for money value and it did really feel like it was 320-340!

marcevs72 15 July 2012 06:58 PM

forget about how much power it has and look for something that has good, standard bodywork.decent brakes/suspension up-grades and a decent history.for the money you want to spend there are some lovely classics around.
DONT RUSH TO GET ONE!!! lol.

I get the feeling that no matter what info members give you, you will go with what you want anyway.

If you want it that bad, buy it fella....but just looking at it and reading the for sale spill, i can tell you its a shed!

Adam-M 15 July 2012 07:48 PM

Also known as a 'scubby' lol

ajuj12 15 July 2012 10:28 PM

No its out of the equation now, but rather i was trying to get a good info of what to get. People have said dont get it, but wanted to get more details on why not? So i know for future purposes. Thanks a lot for the advice so far !!

ajuj12 15 July 2012 11:21 PM

What would your opinion on something of this sort be? Better choice?

marcevs72 16 July 2012 07:19 AM

300bhp + on the original slanty intercooler ???
do you like wearing tracksuits and a baseball cap by any chance...lol
seriously the 2 cars you have shown are proper chav cars.that one is all about the stereo and yet again a set of lexus look lights. doh.

try these on ebay Item number: 251105405048 or Item number: 300739562750

ajuj12 16 July 2012 09:09 AM

no i dont wear anything of that sort, maybe due to my age i find those sort of cars attractive? i have a 530D as a normal everyday drive car. I need something cheap but with some serious power. and 218bhp just wont cut it for me (my 530d has about 260).
