Best Value Tyre Debate

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/

Using the web site above for reference.

Q. What is the best value tyre on the market right now... today?

Q. And who is supplying the tyres at the best prices?

I'm about to but some tyres, i want low noise and good grip....

alcazar 08 July 2012 05:29 PM

So not low price, then?

nyscooby 08 July 2012 09:49 PM

tires are obviously of little importance

alcazar 09 July 2012 10:08 AM

Tires, not really.
But TYRES, they are important.

Unfortunately, they are also very subjective: I LOVE Toyo T1R's. My mate, Andy hates them.

You see what I mean?

rowen_20 12 July 2012 11:20 PM

Falken f452's are what ive just stuck on my classic, standard setup, car came with parada 2's which i thought were good in the dry but terrible in the wet, ive always been a toyo/vredestein man myself but took a jump with the falkens this time and so far extremely impressed in dry use, very very sticky, not tried them out in the wet yet and to early to tell for wear but they give off little road noise also.

well worth a try...(depending how i find them in the wet)

alcazar 13 July 2012 12:38 PM

There, you see: my mate Andy loves falkens, I think they are cheap chav tyres.

Tidgy 13 July 2012 12:41 PM

ah the good old ditchfinder debate.

decent tyres are a must, best value is not always the cheapest.

chocolate_o_brian 13 July 2012 09:39 PM

Jeff, I want to try Falkens going by what others have said about them. I do however agree Toyo t1r's are pants as they just let go in comparison to other tyres I've had on Impreza's. There is no gradual loss, it's either grip or gone. The Bridgestone Re050's on it currently are superior to Toyo's IMO but £115 a corner. :)

Toyo T1r's are approx £74.75 at Camskill for Jeff's size (215/40/17), whilst the equivalent Falken 452 is a whopping 60 PENCE a corner cheaper. ;) Cheap chav tyres eh? :D

Boost luver 14 July 2012 02:14 AM

ALWAYS spend as much as you can on a decent tyre because at the end of the day it's the only thing connecting you with the road!

Iv had Goodyear f1's falken 452 and Bridgestone 050 the f1 were probely the best then the 050 and falken ok in the dry slippy in the wet just my thoughts though :) each to there own and driving style

nyscooby 14 July 2012 06:26 AM

Don't see how a tyre (tire) can be chavvy...? Unless they are tartan Burberry tyres.

:lol1:

It's a personal joke between is, just Jeff being himself ;)

Falken are sold on advertising: Ripspeed etc;)

Toyos on their performance.

If Andy had modded his suspension BEFORE his engine, (like sensible people do:D), THEN fitted Toyos, he'd know how good Toyos could be.

But driving on poor AND tired suspension, he needs tyres that let go sooner.......and give plenty of notice, not grip;)

Oooooh, you mean like when I had that standard powered red Subaru a few years ago, which ran Toyos? The one which had Kyb gas adjustable shocks, Eibach springs, a host of Whiteline goodies... That's how I knew how crap I found them. ;)

alcazar 14 July 2012 03:04 PM

Nah, that was your driving. You parked in the steelworks fence, if I recall?

LOL :D

That was my first impreza Jefferson, which was a sport with crappy tyres. My red one was the 3rd one and by then I thought I'd learnt my lesson, but the crappy Toyos proved I hadn't :D

I had Toyo T1R's and T1S's on my 205 GTi which I hill climbed and found them pretty good.

I had a blowout on the motorway in my Classic last year and had to buy 2 new tyres. The only half decent one's in my budget were Avon ZV5's.

I have to say I'm pleased with them. I only use them for 'spirited driving' on my every day Impreza but They seem decent enough in the wet and dry.

Has anyone tried Toyo R1R's?

chocolate_o_brian 14 July 2012 03:26 PM

I ran my 205gti on Eagle F1s which where very good but fast wearing. I replaced with Uniroyal Rainsport II's and they were phenomenal on the little Pug. Dry and wet grip were outstanding and they didn't wear as quick as the Goodyears. Lighter car though with better handling than an Impreza.

I have my R1R on my classic for over a year now, they are brilliant on both wet and dry, quite and comfortable, looks good and not too expensive, the only downside is that you have to keep toping up the tyre's pressure frequently, espically at the front, it may be due to the tyre's soft compound.

alcazar 14 July 2012 06:22 PM

More likely a badly sealed tyre or leaking valve.

Depending on who did the fitting, the rims should have been SCRUPULOUSLY cleaned before fitting the new tyres. Many places can't be bothered and just do a cursory rub over and apply the white grease.

wrxyz 14 July 2012 06:45 PM

I have had Uniroyal rainsports and currently Continental sport contact 5's , I have always liked the Uniroyals.... fantastic in the wet and still good in the dry, usually a mid price too.

rowen_20 14 July 2012 09:43 PM

So...... Wet day up here today and fallen tyres = pretty pathetic in the wet, very disappointed as they're spot on in the dry, in that respects if def not recommend them to anyone else.... Got a mate running the new vredesteins and he's swearing by them...

alcazar 14 July 2012 11:38 PM

fallen? Falken?

Keep trying to tell folk they are cheap cr@p, but no-one takes any notice....

bustaMOVEs 14 July 2012 11:50 PM

Eagle f1 ass 2

jura11 15 July 2012 12:06 AM

We are tried Falken FK452 those has been OK like in dry or wet.

T1R on the New age is big NO,because T1R have too soft sidewall,on classic seems are OK,but on new age are poor or any heavier car

We are now running Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta which working well like on track/drag or road

Jura

Paignton-Gav 15 July 2012 11:23 AM

Ive got the new Vredestein Ultrac Vorti (new out April 2012) on mine and cannot fault them.. Grip like hell in the wet and dry..Really good rim protector edge too. 225/40/18 at £99 a corner delivered from mytyres.co.uk

Arch 21 July 2012 01:07 AM

You will do a lot worse than a set of Khumo ecsta KU39, decent tyre for not a lot of money.

JonMc 21 July 2012 01:14 AM

I'd rate Falken as a good every day tyre - tried yokohamas, dunlops and a few other including ditchfinders (linglong - came with the car, left with the bin man) and they work well, great in the dry, safe in the wet as long as you don't go mad. I expect there are better wet weather tyres but they'll cost twice the money which for me is pointless as I don't go mad:thumb:
