rubbish window tints

i've wanted my windows tinting for ages, i saved up the cash and paid for them to be done by a local company (GPA SIGNS in rotherham)

i asked if the back window would be done in one piece, he said it would be done in 2 pieces, but i wouldn't be able to see the joint and i wouldn't be able to tell that it has been done in 2 pieces either.

can anyone tell it's done in 2 pieces then?

i've been to see him and he said i'm been picky and unreasonable asking him to sort it out!!!!!!!!!!!

t0sser. trading standards here i come!!!!

tubbytommy 07 July 2012 09:09 PM

why cant it be done in 1 piece???
i watched mine being fitted and it was a single piece

amego 07 July 2012 09:09 PM

Piss poor mine was done in one piece:cuckoo:

Tony Harrington 07 July 2012 09:10 PM

Oops! That is a bad job mate, you must be absolutely gutted, is doing it in two pieces standard practice?

What have other people experienced with window tinting?

Budgie 07 July 2012 09:11 PM

only done this once and the guy near me did a great job
He was recommended by Maggy at Ruislip tyres
yours looks crap, sorry mate

BoozyDave 07 July 2012 09:16 PM

i questioned him when he said it would be done in 2 pieces, but i've seen instructions in the past and they say 2 pieces. he said i wouldn't be able to tell

he did a good job with the join, it was bang in line with the heater element, so it's not seen, not like a random straight line across the window

chocolate_o_brian 07 July 2012 09:20 PM

Well least you've got taste in baby seats, looks like the one we use for our son.

That looks sh1t by the way, I'd be taking that further too!

tubbytommy 07 July 2012 09:21 PM

it looks like the problem is he has used two different shades of tint on the window

Defo what Tommy says mate that is two diff shades. Had mine done and watched the guy put on 1 piece

Martin

tubbytommy 07 July 2012 09:29 PM

if he had used the shade on both bits i dont think you would see join.
still prefer one piece if i was paying though

BoozyDave 07 July 2012 09:29 PM

i found out he used the end of one roll and then started a new roll :cuckoo:
if he knew he didn't have enough, why not just start the new roll?

it's not just a shade difference, it's not even the same colour :cuckoo:

he said it's not his fault, it's a manufacturing fault.
he supplied and fitted = his fault

Limo tints here, in ONE PIECE on the three back windows of the RB!

MattyB1983 07 July 2012 09:33 PM

This Is a joke surely !!!

No company would let a car leave with a tint like that, it's absolutely terrible.

BoozyDave 07 July 2012 09:40 PM

i wish it was a joke

i nearly chinned him when he said I was being picky and unreasonable

IggyRB320 07 July 2012 09:42 PM

How much were they looking to charge for that?

BoozyDave 07 July 2012 09:51 PM

:lol1:

Small claims court? Rogue traders? Local press? You could do a lot of damage to his reputation if you were that way inclined... ;)

fingerscooby 07 July 2012 10:01 PM

Is the bottom one a green tint and top one black?? Great job... Not!

Hope You get it sorted mate

BoozyDave 07 July 2012 10:08 PM

i've posted pics on all my local forums and everyone's on my side

i'm even considering getting some stickers for the back window saying something like 'Do want rubbish 2 tone window tints? if not, don't go to GPA signs' :D

he can't get me done for slander, cos it's true facts

MattyB1983 07 July 2012 10:14 PM

I'm sorry but I'd of thrashed him for that then rammed the fcuking tint down his throat.
That is unreal, and then to call you picky.....WTF !!!!!

There is a garage near me called 'MT Cars'.
A while ago some chap who obviously fell out with them parked his car at there front gates with a huge sticker in the back window saying 'MT Cars = MT Promises'

Was quite funny to see and I did hear the guy got his problem swiftly sorted.

i wish i had done, i only use cash. i've got a card but i haven't used it for about 4 years now. (i built up a massive credit cards balance £4k +, i paid it off and said i wouldn't use it again)

MattyB1983 07 July 2012 11:14 PM

Did you not check the tints before handing over your hard earned cash ??

No way would I have paid full price after seeing that.

£70 and done in one piece. with back seats in place :p
ask for your money back.

chopperman 08 July 2012 12:28 AM

Tell him to do it properly and all the same colour or peel it off and refund you. Tell him if he does not comply you will take him to small claims court. Trading standards will not be interested.
Its easy to sue via the small claims and can even be done online. I doubt it will go that far as no business will want a judgement against them.

BlueBugEye 08 July 2012 09:21 AM

Both the forester and my impreza were done in one piece!

ALi-B 08 July 2012 10:24 AM

Mine was done in one piece - with tinted glass reinforcing film.

I asked for a very light tint on the side windows (to comply with the law) and he applied pimp tints all round  Side windows was dangerous (and illegal) as basically I couldn't see feck all unless it had lights on (especially the door mirrors).

I didn't pay on the premise that the guy didn't have to come back to remove it....I now know why; It took ages to get all traces of the adhesive off. Left it on the rear screen as there was no way it could have been removed without damaging the heater elements (plus the rear screen was ok...I'm used to driving vans with no back windows ;) ).
