Which way does my house face?
 

Well, here is my stupid question of the week:lol1:

I need to figure out which way my house faces and I don't have a compass. On internet searching the answer seems to be to find your house on google maps and there will be a compass on the screen.

I've tried this but no compass seems to appear on the screen.

So what should I do?

Does the sun rise on your front door and set on your back door?
If so, you have a West facing back garden. if the other way then you have an East facing back garden etc etc.

Buy a compass ;)

or get an iphone with a built in compass :)

Or an Android phone with a built in compass! Much cheaper and better option than an iCompass :D

Satellite dish is always facing south try that and Polaris look the other way:)

Surely just Google maps it and up is North? No compass needed on screen. OK there could be some dispute about what exact degree on the compass it faces but seems to work for me to work out at least 8 points on a compass.

Google maps does have a compass.

Hour hand to the sun . The line between that and 12 I clock is north

Out of interest I just checked Google Maps and I dont see a compass but listen to Miniman, its pretty damn obvious you use youre screen as the compass, the top is north, bottom is south etc.

Or as Steve says, use a watch. What do they teach people in schools nowadays lol

Basically just remember that at noon the Sun will be in the south.

Presuming youre in the Northern Hemisphere off course lol

Look out and pick which direction looks grimmest, that will be North, left will be West, to your right you will find East and behind you there will be Southern Shandy Drinking Ponces.

Needle glass of water set fire to your house ask the men with shiny helmets they might help.

I downloaded a compass onto my samsung galaxy.

Google Earth. Hover over the top right of the screen to see the North direction.

Alternatively, if you have a tree in your garden, have a look if there is any moss growing on it. Moss will only grow on the north face of the bark ;)

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. It's that easy...
