Insurance for 20 year old?

Hi, im looking for a subaru insurance and wondered what companies can i use that will insure me. Ive been driving for a year with clean record. Most companies i checked won't insure under 25 but i know someone who is same age as me except he has been driving for 3 years and has a classic subaru with mods. Im looking to get a classic shape, doesn't matter whether its turbo or non turbo or STI, WRX etc. Just want a subaru which is cheapest to insure. I have limit of £1500 on insurance and £2000 on a car.

If you have grandparents go as a named driver through them that's how I got around it

Thats illegal, you, being the owner of the car, have to be the main driver of the car.

OP, you will be stung no matter what, its not just the insurance but the running costs of these cars, a classic will on average, cost you alot to service (a full service every 3 years from a dealer with all the belts etc is 800+, around 500 from a speciallist), intermediate servicing every 6 months is an oil change (note these cars are not like others, you have to be careful how they are serviced), fuel.. even the non turbo is thirsty and slow, I would if I were in your shoes, stick with small engined cars for the next few years, you can have a decent car and not expect to pay 3k+ in insurance.

Tony:)

Your probably going to be better waiting until your 25 years of age to be honest.

The budget you have above is only the start of it, Servicing, Tax and MOT's are not cheap either.

If you must have one and you require to run the car, then get a Sport, and as said try and get someone else to insure it for you, and go as a name driver.

However going by what you said, if you just want to own a Subaru, becuase its a Subaru, then why not take on a 5 year project with one? Then at least when you have turned 25 and the insurance has dropped, you can the treasure the glory of all the effort you have put into it?

Check out the 18 years old project on here, I think he 22 now :thumb:

You'll really struggle to insure a turbo for that money. You're better off getting a small car for now but if you HAVE to have an Impreza then a sport is your only option.

Wait 2 years and you'll be able to insure an import WRX for 1100 quid like me.

none turbo shouldn't be too bad to insure, turbo you will get bent over for.

look for a sport or gx

Lots of different factors influence the price of insurance, not just age, postcode is major too. I'm 21 and have a classic turbo, friends have tried using my insurance company to which they receive shocking prices, if you really want one, do what I did, ring everybody!!!

+1

But don't take the advice of the pillock earlier in the thread about going on your parents/grand parents/next door neighbour/dog's policy as a named driver... IT'S ILLEGAL. :thumb:

I couldnt get anything at all untill i was 21 so just had to wait it out. You still pay way over the top prices, but needs must.

Same here, tried many different companies, got refused, main reason was i need to be over 21. :(

You're best off waiting and building no claims in my opinion. get something fun but not overly powerful, learn how to drive properly first and then you'll be able to insure an IMpreza or similar without getting too badly reamed.

Imprezas aren't great cars to jump straight into as a young in my opinion - they flatter you too much and let you get away with too much. Best you cut your teeth on something with a slightly lower performance envelope and build up to IMprezas. You also need to have a bit of maturity and self restraint before getting an Impreza Turbo, because they can get you into A LOT of trouble very quickly.

And whatever you do don't front your insurance. It's illegal, it's retarded, and it could stop you being insurable on anything other than a pedal bike for years to come.

Not a clue you will have to phone them up. I'd be surprised if it's less than a few hundred quid though.
