vf35 ????

ok so i might be able to get my hands on a decent vf35 . so putting the remap on hold for a bit.
questions i have are
how laggy will this be compared to my td04?
what mods will i need to support this turbo? (ive already got a walbro 255 and full decat)
what sort of power increase can i expect?
will my current standard injectors be ok ?
cheers people
Darren

What model is your car and what injectors are fitted?

daza1974 25 May 2012 09:11 PM

99 uk turbo and standard yellows

Brun 25 May 2012 09:13 PM

300 - 320bhp - not much difference to the TD04 re:lag imo :thumb:

TonyBurns 25 May 2012 09:33 PM

Dont agree with you there really Brun, you will feel the lag more low down but it will pull much stronger than a TD04 ;)

daza1974 25 May 2012 09:50 PM

ok so what about my current mods are they good enough for the vf35 ?
also what about intercoolers

Big 'D' 25 May 2012 11:09 PM

Standard bhp with VF35 on top mount and 440cc injectors would be no more than 320bhp, but with a few mods and a bit of jiggery pokery 360bhp is possible.

Cheers Iain

Oh forgot to mention the VF35 will boost creep on a full decat setup.

Cheers Iain

Upgrade injectors, heat 7 plugs, uppipe and map to 99 and you should see 330-350

Boost creep is caused by the wastegate port choking, it is not a real issue on the std setup with the cats but on a decat the exhaust gas flow is increased in volume and speed and the std size wastegate port is too small to allow for full control of the turbo, the only way to cure it is by porting out the wastegate port, it cannot be mapped out as it is a mechanical restriction and the 3 port solenoid will have no effect on the boost creep, however a 3 port will offer better boost control once the creep is sorted.

Dont be put off by the wastegate porting, its an easy job and the turbo is very strong and capable.

Cheers Iain

thanks for explaining that mate ,
so worth getting the wastegate ported before i fit the turbo?
think i will go for this turbo then my goal was the 300bhp mark so any more is a bonus
cheers again for explaining it all nice clear for me Iain

Defo get the porting done prior to fitting, 300bhp is well within your current setup + the VF35, as mentioned earlier defo think about nkg pfr7b plugs, 550cc injectors would be a bonus if you plan to go for more bhp in the future but 320bhp is well within the reach of the std 440s.

I went to a Vf35 and fmic in a very short amount of time and other than the large hike in power, I thought it wasn't too far removed from the 04 :thumb:

Yes you will have a hike in power as it is a bigger turbo , but as tony says will be more laggy than a td04. I fitted a brand new td04 to my 99 car and it use to start to spool up at around 2400 rpm. Vf 35 will be closer to 2,900.:thumb:

Brun 26 May 2012 11:18 AM

Like i say - i have gone from a TD04 to a VF35. I'm just trying to say, it was not "too" different regardless of numbers :thumb:

daza1974 26 May 2012 07:43 PM

so im going go with the vf35 and get it ported as suggested by iain .
might go with the japspeed fmic to go with the turbo seems a pretty decent kit at a good price .
is it worth it or will my tmic be ok . i do worry about heat soaking!
thoughts or advice on these intercoolers please ???

wrx0211 26 May 2012 07:47 PM

the smile on your face after remapp will be larger than numbers mate.

Brun 26 May 2012 07:47 PM

I would not think twice about fmic if I got another Scoob : thumb:

this is the one

Talk to Harvey Smith on here about his headers and up pipes. I've got a VF35 with harvey's headers and up pipe and the boost comes on about 100rpm later than the old TD04.

Loco 28 May 2012 01:35 AM

just my 2p's worth.

I have a VF35 turbo (on as standard) and have a full decat exhaust, and I don't have any issues with boost creep. my boost print out from my mapper shows nice and flat at higher rpm...

does boost creep only occur on these turbo's if you add them as an aftermarket?
