20g or st420?

hi,which is best for spool and power on a 2ltr.(non avcs)
the st420 is a turbo that area 52 motorsport supply but dont know too much about it.
the 20g in question is af td05 20g.
any thoughts guys
dont want to break the 400 mark but would like to get fairly close?
both options would be a used turbo.

Most make 360-390 depending on other mods and mapper,I seriously can't wait to get mine done now, should make a rapid road car in a classic shell as well:norty:

oh it will be rapid!:cuckoo::D
does the billet version make more power or does it just spool earlier/better?

jura11 05 May 2012 10:44 PM

20G is great turbo and should will make around 360-380bhp on V-power or T99,400bhp is possible

About the ST420 not sure, don't tried this turbo and don't know how will perform.
Those threads hope help

Only slightly, this one made 415 on v-power and 452 on meth, but main thing is better spool

Billet will make power earlier and usually spool faster than non billet version, good if you are compare SC46 non billet vs billet version S46,plus will make same power at less boost.Hope this help

thanks for the info jura....i think the st420 i was thinking about buying made 400 bhp.BUT at 2bar!(on a 2ltr)
i dont know what they are capable of running but certainly puts me off purchasing it.
i think some of the later af 20g come with a billet wheel, and do they come supplied differently for a 2.5 or 2ltr,or is it the same turbo?

prodriverules 05 May 2012 11:10 PM

Same turbo for both 2.0 and 2.5,2 bar for 400 is stupid, this one of mine made 415 at 1.5:thumb:

20G should come with same billet wheel, but for sure i would speak with the Andy F about the his 20G

What you are mean about the 2.0L and 2.5L difference is probably down to size of the exhaust housing, bigger exhaust housing will suit the 2.5L,smaller exhaust housing will suit the 2.0L

How do you identify a billet over a non billet 20g? :)

The compressor wheel looks different to a non billet[they also look shinier lol]

I personally wouldn't even look into it,if it needed 2 bar to achieve 400 then a 20G is a much better bet

99greenwagon 05 May 2012 11:20 PM

andy f site says all his 20gs are now fitted with a billet wheel.but i dont know when that was from.:wonder:

TD05-20G will be more suited to the 2.0L,TD06-20G will be more suited 2.5L.

Only US guys using bigger exhaust housing on the 20G,you will hardly buy them here in UK,if yes will be import 20G

TD05-20G will be best bet and if its possible billet will be good too, speak to the Andy F about the billet upgrade to the 20G

I'm looking at buying this turbo can anyone confirm that it's a built 20g?

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j6...6/800cfe95.jpg

Cheers :)

jeffwrx 06 May 2012 01:42 AM

^^^^that looks like a Andy F 20g , it looks like it has the standard cast compressor wheel ,
Not billet.

ronjeramy 06 May 2012 02:27 AM

Yeah the owner said it as an Andy Forrest turbo but didn't know if it was a billet one or not. What do they spool like in comparison and what power are they good for on a 2.0 mon avs?

Cheers :)

Has anyone got Andy Forrests number? The one on the web does not seem to go through

Shaks-STI 10 May 2012 12:58 PM

i have AF TD05 20G, bought it of a member on here, the turbo made over 400 on his 2.0l and currently at 366 on my 2.5l but thats due to injectors so i should see more power once i have 740cc.

MattyB1983 10 May 2012 05:52 PM

I've seen a few posts where people say their 20G is very laggy. I don't understand it though, I run a AF 20G and don't find it laggy one bit, infact after fitting it along with GT spec manifold and up pipe it spools quicker than my old VF28.
And now with a splash of meth in the mix to bring up the torque Its fantastic, great turbo for the money IMO.
