172 cup....That is all.
|
depends what you want it for and your budget; daily driver with unlimited budget is a no brainer; 200 full fat with the Cup chassis. Daily driver on limited budget 182 Full Fat with both Cup packs. Track tool; stripped 172 Cup :)

What are 'both' cup packs on the 182, and what does full fat mean? Cheers |

there are two Cup packs for the 182, the important one is the Cup chassis where the hubs are upgraded to give a wider footprint, stiffer/lower springs and anthracite wheels. Other Cup pack is cosmetic; front splitter and slightly larger rear wing. Full Fat refers to the equipment level; Xeons, auto wipers, auto lights, cruise control, half leather\alcantara interior etc whereas on a Cup variant you get far fewer toys and normal cloth trim.
Liking the sound of the 182 more and more - thrashable & chuckable :D |

I have a 172 but a different kettle of fish as its a rally car , it goes very well , handles and brakes amazing , just need more grunt , got an engine build on the go now to get it to around 230-240hp now , and looking to get it to about 260ish later in the year , I'm leading the Welsh tarmac championship in class with it now :D

182 full fat with both cup packs.
Last of the little light hot hatches. Clips since have just got bigger and heavier. I've a fully modified 573bhp impreza and a cup packed 182 with track tyres and pads. The Clio puts a smile on my face every bit as big as the impreza at a fraction of the cost and I can keep up with and many a time outrun lots of more expensive and "on paper" faster cars. It's a true giant slayer in every sense and I love every second of driving it. Trails and I had this conversation last night. Big power impreza is wide eyed excitement. The Clio is out and out grin factor. Most fun ive ever had in a car. :) |
OK, I'm sold :D
Thanks for the replies, which all gush :) Was expecting to see some usually French reliability knocks against it So, if I budget for 6K, that should see me there...? |
You want the one with the least electrics on it :lol1: otherwise they are a good little car, just dont take it to a Renault Dealer, they really suck (having had them not tighten up the sump plug on my 1 year old R19 16v after an oil service :rolleyes: )

182 = no spare wheel!

Anyone compare the 182 to an ITR DC5?
I owned a DC5 for a short time and didn't like it - the VTEC got tiresome and it it really NEEDED to be driven hard to get anything out of it. The handling was sublime though, but smoothly so - track smooth, not chuckable. The Clio seems a bit more flightly, suiting the monkey style better...? Different animal completely ? |

I can't compare a DC5 but can a DC2 (my mates), and there was nothing in it at the last track day (my last post). Out of the box the DC2/5 will be better than a 182 (non trophy) but a few quid can get these cars sorted very quickly. I now own a facelift EP3 type R, and although not as chuckable (yet) than the 182 I much prefer the whole package, and have big plans for this.:norty: |

I had a 172 for just over a year (have also had a EP3 Type R a few years ago.)
I found the clio great fun and really chuckable with excellent brakes. But had to be caned to make any progress and had an damn awful driving position, i just couldn't get comfy in it! Lots of electrical gremlins too, throttle jerkiness, emissions lights etc. Civic was a far better car! I'd never have another renault! |
i ve had a 172 cup and 182 trophy both i bought brand new. for fast road these cars come no where near a classic STI subaru. :thumb:
