Best pistons & rods EJ257??

As above pls can anyone advise me on the best pistons/rods for my 2.5 engine, running roughly 450/500bhp?

Many thanks :thumb:

Kirstiestar 17 March 2012 12:01 PM

And also where is the best place to get new lifters for V3/4 cylinder heads? :)

KAS35RSTI 17 March 2012 12:15 PM

CP, JE, Wiseco or Cosworth pistons. For 500 i think it would be safe to peg the block.
Rods wise Carillo or BC would be my choice. Many other decent parts to choose from.

toyney83 17 March 2012 01:47 PM

kas has pretty much got it covered. for 500 though you'd be fine with say manley rods. have a luck at real street performance. they have good deals on piston and rod combos

jura11 17 March 2012 02:36 PM

As above for best prices Real Street Performance or here Advance automotives

Cosworth pistons, rods i would suggest too Cosworth, but they're pricey,Manley H beam rods should be enough for 500bhp and above.Just beware the Eagle ESP H-Beam rods, they're not the best for 500bhp

I have a pinned block ( bare ) and cp pistons and manley h beam rods for sale;)

Kirstiestar 17 March 2012 05:08 PM

Thanks very much guys :)

Millzy555 i shall speak to the other half & get back to you!

Kirstiestar 17 March 2012 05:29 PM

How much do you want for it all? :)

Paulo P 17 March 2012 05:44 PM

I really would go for a pinned block if I was you or a 2 litre.

millzy555 17 March 2012 05:50 PM

800 for the block as thats what the cost was to have it pinned properly and 450 for the rods and pistons. Have lots of other goodies as well!

Kirstiestar 17 March 2012 05:54 PM

Can you pm me your number? :)

I would get it closed decked, much better idea.

Yep but that's probably out of the question.

Just get it built using the right bits and enjoy it :) 2.5's aren't known for their reliability when you start winding up the boost :(

Kirstiestar 17 March 2012 06:12 PM

I know, wish i'd never started to be honest. Finally got it back tues after 2 months of it being off the road for a general engine cleanup and few mods, ie heads, injectors, turbo etc. Just for it to blow the bottom end the next day! Didnt boost it once, warmed it up properly etc as i always do. There was a tapping sound which we thought may be a noisy lifter at first, dumped the oil and seems the bottom end has gone :(
Getting really fed up of it all now, owned it 2 years and driven it for 1 :(

Paulo P 17 March 2012 06:15 PM

Bloody hell I didn't realise that! I knew JB was building it back up again but I didn't know he'd finished it. Any idea what caused it? Personally I'd either do a big build (if the budget allows) or throw a version 7 or 8 sti short motor in there.

Kirstiestar 17 March 2012 06:24 PM

Yeah fraid so :( He thinks some crap got into the heads or the turbo. Its so gutting i cant even explain how much i want to burn it! But he is determind to get it sorted! Think we have roughly another 2K to chuck at it (or down the drain lol) x

I know someone selling a forged short motor, 2.35l I think, with the block pinned, pretty sure the asking price is 2K.

mickywrx 17 March 2012 08:45 PM

Sorry, it's a 2.5 for 2K.

I have no idea, it's just something I read on the t'internet. ;)

phil1981 18 March 2012 09:28 AM

sorry to hear this kirstie. sounds like you enjoy it as much as i enjoy mine lol.
it may also be worth asking the couple traders on surrey

dazdavies 18 March 2012 09:56 AM

A correctly built pinned 2.5 using the right parts will cope fine with 450 -500.

Wiseco, CP or Cosworth Pistons

Carillo, Cosworth, or Pauter Rods

alanbell 18 March 2012 10:20 AM

on my build i have lateral custom long strker rod set, custom high cr 2.1 piston kit ceramic coated, multi layer steel head gaskets, acl race series main bearings, acl race series centre thrust bearings, acl race series big ends bearing set, gt billet 30r, sti 8 jdm heads race cams. and more , should be ok at 500 +.

Kirstiestar 18 March 2012 11:44 AM

Thanks for all the comments guys, apparently mine is a semi CDB and is fully forged. It was mainly pistons & rods i was after, not looking to change the engine as its practically brand new! Gonna stick with the 2.5 :)

Kirstiestar 18 March 2012 11:46 AM

If anyone has Millzy555's number can you ask him to pm me pls :) Need to get this sorted asap! Not spending another summer having a pretty car that spends its life in the garage lol

New_scooby_04 18 March 2012 02:04 PM

Supertech pistons get my vote. VERY quiet for forged pistons!

If you give David at APi a call he can sort you out with them and some of his steel rods too!

They certainly work in my SC46 2.5 conversion!
