Please recommend a different ISP
Hi,
Am currently with Talk Talk (as they have bought out Pipex who I had been with for years). Not at all happy with their customer support and wish to change ISP. Which of the larger "national" ones are well thought of and is the change process simple enough? Thanks |
Try Sam Knows;
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker Then do a comparison That will tell you all the options. Of course you will have to ask people local to you to see who is better. |

First of all find out from that link above what services your exchange provides. Ideally you want LLU as this is where the isp has their own kit in the exchange and you connect directly onto their network at the exchange, as opposed to going over BT kit.
LLU will be far cheaper than non LLU and then opens you up to bethere or O2. I was with bethere but then moved to O2 as I get unlimited broadband and no throttling, good customer service and web portal for what at the time was £7.50 a month, now £9.50 a month* *This is discounted by £5 p/m through having an O2 mobile but doesn't have to be a contract one you can still get the discount with a payg sim. I wouldn't use anyone else now for broadband O2 have been that good. BT send me marketing bumph must be once a month to join them and they are a joke in both pricing and customer service (lack of). |
I think you have to go back to BT with Talktalk, cant remember why tho' .....
|
Zen if you want to pay but you get great UK based customer support
|
In order:
Virgin Cable BT Infinity Bethere Avoid Pipex, Tiscali |
+1 for zen, been with them aaaaaaaages, 0 problems, A1++ support but only 8am-8pm
|
Be*There are absolutely great, but it depends if your exchange has their equipment.

It's crap but if you're currently with TalkTalk then you will struggle to move to anyone that doesn't use a BT line. Most providers have an LLU in the exchange but they are only happy to move you from the BT LLU to theirs which means if you're on TalkTalk, Sky or Orange you'll struggle to swap to anyone other than BT. Stick it out with BT for 12 months then you can move again.
If you have Virgin in your area I'd go for the top Virgin package. If not see if you have Bt Infinity which I am currently using. It's fast and the top package doesn't have a fair usage policy anymore. I tested it and downloaded 900GB last month without any problems. |
We're with BT. Had a few problems before Christmas but fair play to them they have sorted it and even though the call centre is in India they are quite good.
FTTC enabled later this year too.. |
