Skylines

Just woundered what people thought about skylines, ive been tempted to buy one but not sure but id be keeping my turbo 2000???

prodriverules 11 February 2012 09:31 PM

Running costs are alot higher than impreza's

simonRF 11 February 2012 09:34 PM

i owned one 4 yrs ago ,crap handling ,it was a 1994 , amazing comfort, crap in the wet , fuel consuption rubbish, use to nurse it round everywhere about 50mph, i would never own another one, also know people that own them , always having problems ,ie turbo etc, thats just my opinion though

wiggy1 11 February 2012 09:34 PM

true, but whats the general feeling about them? Ive always fantasied about owning one, just love the shape for some reason, and now i can afford to buy one im having second thoughts weather its the right thing to do!

Moley 11 February 2012 09:35 PM

Great cars to drive, straight 6 sounds awesome.

However, they need at least 350bhp to feel quick (rather than fast), and are a LOT more expensive to run than an Impreza.

tubbytommy 11 February 2012 09:36 PM

i love the r34 in blue

wiggy1 11 February 2012 09:38 PM

this is my other problem which model would i got for i like the r33 but the r34 is gorgeous, or do i buy a nice new age scooby???

r1c 11 February 2012 09:40 PM

depends how much money you have.

wiggy1 11 February 2012 09:41 PM

about 22000 to play with

simonRF 11 February 2012 09:42 PM

if you can get hold of a good one, go for it , if i hadnt owned one then i would still want one, just been offered an r33 gtst, in white fully modded 1 owner, 62000 miles, for my scooby

Dirk Diggler 75 11 February 2012 09:43 PM

R34 for me in Bayside Blue ...........
Mega expensive running costs.........

prodriverules 11 February 2012 09:45 PM

If I'm honest I have had a soft spot for them ever since seeing/hearing rocket ronnie's 900bhp monster

I had an 09 GTR from new, awesome car, very exciting, very fast, handles like a dream - sold it after 8 months because it was boring, seriously, anyone on this forum could have got in it on a track day and beat everything else on the track if they were brave enough to keep their foot in. I thrashed my mate in his Ferrari who is a much better drive than me.

R34 V-Spec is where it is at, best looking, most rewarding to drive and still holding its value well in Bayside Blue.

wiggy1 11 February 2012 10:14 PM

If I had a big enough space and enough cash the only two classics I would have would be a C110 and Miura (oh and a 250GTO if I had a spare 20 mil)

That is a very nice car.

prodriverules 11 February 2012 10:19 PM

Going about it right you could have a awesome set up with 500bhp in a classic, don't forget you would need to uprate the brakes and everything else to go with it so not all the 20k could be thrown at the engine

baker_boy 11 February 2012 10:23 PM

@tegra boy - yes, yes and yes.. i love old skool jap motors

Moley 11 February 2012 10:32 PM

If you spend the £22k on a Turbo 2000 it'll be like throwing money away, you'd never get close to that back, even breaking it.

If you get a R34 (especially in Bayside blue) you'll probably make money when you sell it... although i suspect you'll need nearer £25k to buy one in the first place.

If i had £22k to spend i know what i'd do.

tubbytommy 11 February 2012 10:34 PM

and 25k later you will still have an old turbo 2000

LOL you took the words right out of my mouth. :D

TBH subaru's are far to soft. IMO

I would buy an R34 all day long, and you won't loose all your hard earned cash. And i wouldn't worry about running cost, because a 20k classic is going to cost you shed loads of cash in the long run. :thumb:

stevie1982 11 February 2012 10:46 PM

You must be able to get a well sorted r33 v spec for less than 22k would of thought they would sit around 15k but as Gary says the r34 if you could stretch a little more would still be worth what you paid for it and there is no way I would drop 22k on your turbo be a complete waste.

wiggy1 11 February 2012 10:49 PM

what about the option of buying a widetrack jdm then and putting the rest of my spare cash into it, would that be worth it?

prodriverules 11 February 2012 10:52 PM

It's alright spanking 25k on a 34 but it would cost the earth to insure and even more when it go's wrong or to mod.
subaru modding is lame money when compared to skylines,60-100k is very often spend by the big boys in skyline groups

tubbytommy 11 February 2012 10:53 PM

if your after resale value you will never get back anywhere near what you have spent on mods.
decide what you want a modded car or one to sell one.
id take the r34 over a jap widetrack and wouldnt want a turbo 2000 regardless

initialD 11 February 2012 10:55 PM

could you not buy a new age sti for the base of the build ? then at least the gearbox is there already . sell sti turbocharger for a few hundred along with brembos and top mount . stroked and forged engine build etc etc thats the direction id go with over 20g's :thumb:

CrisPDuk 12 February 2012 02:13 AM

I've always fancied an R32, but the potential for big expense has always put me off

chief-long-shin 12 February 2012 04:36 PM

Previously owning a 33gts t after an impreza I enjoyed for three months and worked through a couple of other cars to come back to a scoob.

4-5 years ago I was paying £10 for about 35 miles. 320bhp skyline.

Awesome straight line, handling was light but scary. Prefer the scoob for fun.

They sound nice and engines are strong but man you need some deep old holes near your legs now for the fuel.

Get yourself another nice scoob mate.

While I think about it too rear tyres lasted me 3 months, not all play time either and it was going to cost if I recall correct £500 for two rears 285/35/18

They're great and nice and I don't regret but you will get sick Boeing your putting the garage owners kids in designer clothes very quickly and it will be even harder to shift now when that time comes

I wouldn't call the GTR boring...did you bother trying R mode or running with VDC off on track!? Last track day at Silverstone was wet and R mode had me going sideways with the slightest over press on the loud pedal.

Agreed, the car's faster than most Ferrari's and Porsche on track - that just shows the Japanese can build a better cars than the Eurotrash countries http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/images/sm...ew/popcorn.gif

It's a very different car to the Scoob though, not a country lane monster IMO which is the reason I kept the Scoob.

Anders
