Price me up a type R?

Getting itchy feet with my e36 m3 track car so was wondering how much it would sting to get back into subaru ownership.

What kinda damage would a forged type R be going for these days. preferable 400bhp +

6-8k?

Likewise a newage.

Probably not too far off with that price... there was one on ebay a while back for £8k, 420bhp, forged, wast pretty to look at but fun fun fun.... best of luck...

Nice car and decent price, but would cost the OP an awful lot more than 3.4K to get a reliable 400+.
And for 8K you can buy one already done.

So how much are decent Type R shells going for? I am tempted to buy a rolling shell and build my own lump.

I guess building my own would cost me perhaps 3k? + shell?

thinking about it more, i dont think i could bring myself to spend 8k on such an old car. I see a good 400+ classif (non type r) went for around 6k recently on here. Does the type R really command a premium?

I should have bought bobs when it was for sale and wait for a type R shell!

buy mine mate. It wouldnt cost you a lot at all to get it over 400bhp. Its just been rolling roaded at 363bhp/374ft/lbs. A simple remap would get it into the territory your looking at :-)

^^^^^^^^^then you would have enough change out of your 8k to get a six speed set-up. That would make it a very fun/reliable track weapon that looks the part aswel ;-)

You can pick up a newage sti from as little as 5k, then stick something like an sc46 turbo and remap, and away you go 450+bhp and no worries, what it costs and how far you take it is up to you.

I love the type R but the newage is tempting. A lot newer and a lot less hassle. About 250kg extra though.

What are all your thoughts on dccd?

My old scoob was very un-rewarding to drive on the track. it has stupid amount of understeer and wasnt predictible. The handling and expecting the engine to blow up at any moment were the main reasons i sold my old V4 and switched to RWD. the e36 drives great and is brill on the track. i just dont have any love for it and craving some imprezage again.

So will DCCD improve the handling/rear bias a little? I understand it only puts power to the rear when slipping, but i imagine i will be doing this a lot with 400+ bhp.

I think if im going to loose RWD driving it would need to be 450+ really to entertain properly. Something properly ballistic.

So clearly, my requirements would be fully forged engine, baffled sump (enging prep for track), decent suspension setup, and decent BBK. Oh and white type R.

I take it there are still no viable RWD conversion for the scoob hobbiest?

Go for it mate your plan sounds superb. Yep the DCCD adjusted will get rid of most of the understeer but things like tyres and rear ARB ect help alot aswell.

never did the rear arb on the scoob, just coilovers, alk, bushes etc. Will it activly change the unpredictible understeer?

Been ploughing in the research and it seems a type r can be had from 4k ish.

Decent forged scoobs going anywhere from 5k needing a gearbox to 7k immaculate with bbk etc. 450+ blob can be had from 8k upwards. Which must really strain the prices on the classics!

I think DCCD or custom box would be preferred

What fuel / sump setup would i be needed for 450+ heavy track usage? twim pumps and swirl pot etc? Custom baffled sump / dry sump?

This is only really on if i can find a beast for sale. I remember Terminator/stevie has had a few gooduns.

BannySTI's car has been nagging in the back of my mind for 2 years away from the scene. Perhaps time to get back in it :)
