Blanking off dunpvalve??

As many know I'm having a bit of work done on my sti
I have a md321T going on it with fmic
My question is;
Is there any benefit of Blanking off your d/v or should I run one??
Is there pros and cons for both???

You have to run some sort of d/v to release system pressure when you return the throttle to idle. Running without would cause turbo damage and probably blow the weakest inlet hose or clip etc.

I thought on the stronger turbos like what I've got it's ok not to have one??

madmarx 06 February 2012 08:06 PM

Im just talking in general terms. If you run without one you will get chatter on the compressor impellers , which some people like to hear and the car will build boost quicker and more low down, but at a cost of your inake system , intercooler and pipes etc being pressured more when the throttle is closed after been open on boost.. Let someone more knowledgable on specific turbo loads answer your question.

Ok mate no worries
If I have to get a Chav valve what would be best a Recirculating dump valve???

alcazar 06 February 2012 09:45 PM

Yes.

Use a standard one, or an aftermarket if you have money to burn;)

Mine is a Forge...........I HAD money to burn...........:(

craigyp 06 February 2012 09:50 PM

I'll use my standard one then...
Will I need that adapter kit of Harvey to run my standard one on my fmic???

That turbo will run with no dump valve no problem. I did on an MD321H and when it came off there was no play in the shaft. Now running no dump valve on MD321T billet.

Unless it's lots'o boost I wouldn't worry. My TD05's are fine at 1.4 peak. :)

I was wondering wether could do same on my sc40 billet ?

MD321 T will run with DV delete all day long.

I think the car feels better on DV delete. I tested the theory on the turbo (MD321T) using DV DELETE / OEM Recirc / Forge Recirc (with added shims and Red Spring) / Turbo Smart Dual Port .................the DV DELETE won hands down.

It was Mark himself and Simon ( JGM ) that advised me to run DV Delete in the first place. Not looked back since.

Do you loose spool response??? Way I'm seeing it is a dv keeps turbo spinning but deleting it the turbo will have to spool from scratch??? Is that right? Will it make it more laggy with the dv delete???

barnshaw 07 February 2012 07:45 AM

i have been running DV delete on my car for months, turbo is an SR40 and it was definately more responsive when blanking it off and picks up better, plus the added benefit is the sound

I had no issues either with a GT30 standard fit running with standard ecu and maf too. Im on my phone now, but I think this is the link to it before I broke it for spares and there was no signs of ill wear on any parts.

Cheers folks
So there will be no spool loss???

Blue by You 07 February 2012 08:46 AM

I tried this on mine (SC46) and I found it affected the turbo quite badly when changing gear.
The noise is neat, but I didn't find any benefits so I now run a turbosmart dual port d/v, which is biased towards the recirc side.
Also I was told at RCM that OEM recirc d/v's have a tendency to leak at higher boost levels (1.7 bar and over).

craigyp 07 February 2012 08:53 AM

So mixed views on it then?? Gonna try the delete 1st I think

Rob Day 07 February 2012 09:06 AM

You might awell give it a go first and see how you get on. If you need to recirc I believe the V3/V4 Standard valve is probably more than up to the job, at least this is what I was told, but I never bothered.

I did however (before I was informed about the above) try recirculating a SSQV VTA and it wasnt great if im honest.

Makes a difference if it can be mapped while running the DV delete. Doing it without mapping and it may not be so great given its like running a vta as far as the maf is concerned. Done it on both my classics and I notice the retained boost pressure improving spool when banging through the gears. If you laze through changes you may find the spool not as responsive, but then who does that. But in any case the negative is very minimal. :)

craigyp 07 February 2012 10:43 AM

Yeah will be having it mapped straight away along with the other mods

I'm interested by your statement... although i don't run a DV on my TD05, I've always been told (predominantly from the tuners specialising in Ford/Cosworths) that dump valves are essential on Garrett's GT series of turbos due to them having a thinner shaft than the older and perhaps more agricultural T3/T34/T4 turbos...:thumb:
