Garage makes it more expensive?

Hi

I've got a quote for a Impreza wrx which was 987 so thought that was bad enough but even still, not many companies would even quote me.
They asked me where it was being kept and I told the truth, on the road outside my house.

My landlord owns a garage at my property, it's full of bits and pieces but I asked him if there was anyway I could rent the garage as well, I thought this would save quite a bit if I could garage the car.
He said yes it's possible, give him the weekend to empty it etc.

I phoned the insurance back and asked if I changed on the road to garage how much would that knock off to see if it's worth renting. It added £240 to the price!

How does this work? Am I missing something?

some one told me leaving it on the street away from your house brings it down as they dont know which house to break into

We find being on a street means lots of companies refuse to quote, so i find it odd that being in a garage increased the price with that company

That was with Admiral. I couldn't get a quote with you today unfortunatly so thought I'd have to just take the hit from these lot!!

I had this too was only a small difference but was more expensive keeping it in the garage

i suppose if you think about it logically an un alarmed garage would allow said burger more time to work on a car unseen before they made off with it, i know most cars need keys now, but i did hear of a vw touareg v10 getting taken without keys off the drive, auto aswell so its beeh hoist or taken with second key!

If it helps, the 4 main companies i use for Subaru's have this opinon:

3 decline to quote at all if it's kept on a street overnight, and the other company increase the price by at least 15%, and will also want a closer look at your postcode before they offer that increased price.

but lets face it, no matter where you live if they want it they will will travel and take it, i think simply in the crappy areas like rochdale there are alot more oppertunistic car thefts,
