Sti 8 scoops look chavvy mate, plus they are flimsy and flex at high speed.

LewisL 10 January 2012 04:13 PM

Yea I think your right!

I love sti8 scoops on sti8's but just can't decide if I like them on bug's which probably means I don't lol

Flex doesn't sound too clever either.

BlueBugEye 10 January 2012 04:26 PM

They don't look like they fit properly, look really aftermarket and pants! Stick to STi 7 scoop

powerwrx 10 January 2012 04:34 PM

have a look at 'my garage'... my old bugeye (saloon) great car...sad i sold it

initialD 10 January 2012 04:42 PM

comments about flex are on the money for sure , i backed off at 100 the other day as it looked like it was about to blow into pieces ? but personally dont mind the look of em on new age cars just not classics ? here mine anyway , may be swapping with someone for oem soon hopefully :D

no flex in mine up to around the 150 mark. Mine isnt there for looks. The difference in charge temos fron the earlier smaller original scoop is pretty amazing. I've had this on 5 or so years no so cant remember exact figuire. But at the time of fitting i swapped between the two scoops and measures I/C temps and the later 2003 model scoop is far better.

Have you "tested" what it's doing?

YE5 1 SUB 10 January 2012 08:52 PM

I havent tested what its doing areodynamicaly (spelling) but i have measured and compared charge temps with both 2002 and the bigger 2003 scoop. certainly from my temp guage plumbed into the i/c temps are lower with the bigger one. More importantly when they get high from sitting still in traffic the temps cool much quicker with the bigger scoop once on the move

One of my old motors, few different angles ;)

Couldnt resist the first pic lol

That's what i was wondering as i assume the STi7 bonnet is a different shape to the 8 so didn't know if the scoop would have the desired effect - aerodynamics and all that blah blah blah.......
I've seen it a few times on here when people have removed the backing plate for instance off their classic bonnet vents and claim they have reduced the under bonnet temps but as they haven't tested it they don't realise they achieved precisely the opposite :thumb:

Not on an STi 7 :thumb:

would,nt of thought the shape of the headlights would effect the flow of air?

its all down to preference?

SkydiveMacca 10 January 2012 10:00 PM

Mine. I like it.

its bigger so more air :D and more air is a good thing :norty: if anything its gonna perform better than sti 7 its obvious ! as for the looks its a personal opinion as is everything .

Brun 10 January 2012 11:20 PM

The bonnet is different too is it not?

if anything its gonna perform better than sti 7 its obvious
No - not obvious. Like i alluded to in an earlier post, it would seem obvious that removing the bonnet vent back plates on a Classic would return lower under bonnet temps but quite the opposite is true.

i would of thought subaru would of tested it?
Just going back to this one - you would have thought that Subaru tested the Classic in excess of 100mph but the fact that the scoop is all but useless over 100mph would suggest otherwise???

initialD 10 January 2012 11:25 PM

its obvious it lets more air in thats a fact surely :wonder: as its a larger opening !

or should i be entering myself in the " most stubborn " thread ?:D

initialD 10 January 2012 11:28 PM

click on subaru forums then choose a topic then new post :thumb:

I don't dispute it has a bigger opening and it "could" let more air in and in all fairness i'd be hugely surprised if it doesn't, i was simply asking the question does it? Maybe because of the aerodynamics of the front of a V7, the extra space of the Scoop is not taken advantage of??? However unlikely, it is entirely possible as aerodynamics are a funny old game :thumb:
