Swap or not?

I have a 57 plate Astra vxr with 45k and I have been offered a 04 wr1 with a 100k for a straight swap?
What is everyone's opinion?

Would have thought the VXR is worth a touch more going on age and mileage

millsy3 22 December 2011 02:54 PM

depends on what sort of life the scoobys had mate, you need to look into it eg cambelt and pulleys etc

coupebrett 22 December 2011 02:58 PM

The wr1 has had all the belts done and it's on tein coil overs! I have mine for sale for £8000

coupebrett 22 December 2011 03:00 PM

This is the scooby!

Looks very nice that mate. If I were you I would swap sure.

Adam-M 22 December 2011 04:37 PM

The mileage is high but i'd still go for it as it will still be more reliable than the Astra mate and alot more fun, it's also alot nicer to look at (assuming im talking about your usual VXR?)

Take it for a test drive mate. I'd personally say the scoob.

My Astra

Adam-M 22 December 2011 04:54 PM

Very clean mate and looks almost brand new but doesn't shout exciting. I'd still say the WR1 mate. It all really depends on what you want from a car, the WR1 will be thirsty, loud (rocket launcher exhaust) and very stiff (Tein coilovers) so will be more of a toy than an everyday car.

jaygsi 22 December 2011 04:55 PM

I wouldn't, like any car impreza's worth alot less once hit 100k

I'd just get a lesser model for less money and less miles.

s70rjw 22 December 2011 05:01 PM

From Parkers guide for a very rough idea.......

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/prices.../?yearplate=85

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/prices.../?yearplate=75

According to Parkers, Vauxhall is worth considerably more. The price for the WR1 is based on a 70k example, not one with 100k.

MattyB1983 22 December 2011 05:17 PM

Deffinately would not be swapping !!!'

Your car is worth all of 8 grand, take a look on autotrader for instance. At 8K with 45K your car would look cheap.

100K WR1 will still be very reliable but is it worth 8 grand.....I think not.

If I was you chap I'd sell the VXR first for cash and get as close to 8 grand as possible. Then with that money I'd go out on the hunt for a blob STI. With cash in your hand 8 grand will get you a very nice example.

EddScott 22 December 2011 05:27 PM

^^^^truth^^^

WR1 really only worth buying when it's got low miles - you could argue that is the same for any limited edition.

Theres 05 STI with 25% of that mileage for £8K. Not worth the trade IMO.

ste_brough 22 December 2011 07:57 PM

Is it a dealer wanting to swap?

coupebrett 22 December 2011 09:39 PM

No it's my mates car, why?

barnshaw 22 December 2011 09:50 PM

astra is a far better car to have over that WR1, as above sell the VXR and buy a better specced blob sti, also god knows how someone come to the conclusion the subaru will be more reliable then the astra???

monkfish2 22 December 2011 10:31 PM

100k on the clock - no way all day long

What makes you think that Subaru are not as reliable as Vauxhall? I've been a mechanic working on all makes for 11 years now & have had more reliability issues with Vauxhall than with any other make of car!

barnshaw 23 December 2011 07:32 AM

probably because vauxhall sell alot more cars theen vauxhall and therefore by default they would appear to have more problems?

I can only speak from my own experience from owning several vauxhalls, with no problems and then owning one subaru which so far in a year has had to have new suspension, new maf and a full rebuild.

the fact of the matter is that astra is worth more then the subaru.

Adam-M 23 December 2011 03:04 PM

The engine in that Subaru could take upto 450bhp mate (maybe not with that mileage), says it all.

Osimabu 25 December 2011 09:39 PM

That WR1 has been for sale at that dealer for months. I'd been looking for one since May (although I ended up with something else) and I'm certain it was being advertised in August or September, if that's any help.

I'm not saying it's good or bad incidentally, simply it seems to have been for sale for a very long time which makes you wonder why it hasn't sold.

Good luck in any case.

stevie1982 25 December 2011 09:57 PM

Not a chance would I entertain that, you can buy a 2005 model with the wider running gear, revised interior for 8k with half the miles the wr1 has done. You would be mad simple. Sell your astra private and buy private. Walk away but its you car n cash so do what you wish

coupebrett 25 December 2011 11:17 PM

To be honest guys
I drove it yesterday and he drove mine
The scooby has a lot better traction than my vxr but once they are moving mine feels more responsive and pulls harder!
But I pushed it hard upto about 90mph and my vxr was still sitting behind me!
The vxr isn't standard at ll though lol

wilbo 26 December 2011 10:05 AM

As above, would def look to sell the vxr and look for a blob sti with lower miles.

jono300 26 December 2011 10:21 AM
