lets talk turbo`s

right guys i am currently running a jdm wrx 1995 with a fmic, 440`s , 255, td05 16g, fpr, simtek, maff delete ect ect, the car is running 336.2/335 on v power but seems rather lazy and laggy as it doent really spool up quick enough tbh,, i know the vf series turbo`s are a much quicker spooling turbo but which one do i need?? i do not want to be going much over 340bhp at the minute as i have not done the gearbox yet so whats your advice and if somone has somthing suitable please give me a shout,.
steve,.

prodriverules 23 November 2011 07:40 PM

VF34 without doubt mate would suit thoses needs perfectly :thumb:

addi monster 23 November 2011 07:42 PM

is the vf34 not a roller bearing assembly, would this reduce spooling time and when do they start to spool and max bhp,..
steve,.

prodriverules 23 November 2011 07:44 PM

The 34 is a roller bearing where as the td05 is a sleeve so isn't as good a spooler as the 34.
1 bar is a round 3300-3500 depending on spec and 3700 would see full boost of 1.4-1.5 depending what you want to run boost wise.
The 34 is hands down a better turbo than the td05 not that the td05 is a bad one mind.

Surely a VF35 would fit the bill too :thumb:

+1 but the 34 is a better choice due to roller bearing design but still the 35 is a good route as well.

addi monster 23 November 2011 08:02 PM

whats the spooling times on both mentioned as the vf35 seems a much cheaper option,.

prodriverules 23 November 2011 08:03 PM

35 is around 3-400 later than the 34 given its a sleeve design like the td series

TH3_5T1G 23 November 2011 08:05 PM

I'd imagine you'd see as much as 500rpm between a 34 and a 35 (in the 34's favour). On dyno it may be different but on road i'd say about right. Of course, it could always be a bit of a smaller or larger gap but not by much :)

Having said that, i'm sure you could purchase a VF35 a bit cheaper

Edit to say Wiley is currently selling a VF34 :)

addi monster 23 November 2011 08:07 PM

ahh thats the sleave one then ,lol thought it was the 34 that was a sleaved one,. plenty of 35`s going for the £160 mark but cant find any 34`s , is the one on here worth £400

Jolly Green Monster 23 November 2011 08:08 PM

the spool difference should be minimual and you have the hassle of fitting a front entry turbo to a top entry turbo as standard engine ie. the inlet manifold is in the way etc.

Whats spool like at the moment?

addi monster 23 November 2011 08:16 PM

5,500rpm i get peak torque,. isnt my td05 a front entry

There like rocking horse sh!t mate so demand dictate's the price and £400-£450 is the going rate yes.

peak torque 5500rpm? you sure? thats very late.

header leak?

no it will be top entry like all standard td05 16g

addi monster 23 November 2011 08:21 PM

just looked , top entry lol

addi monster 23 November 2011 08:23 PM

no header leaks at all, i have had them sealed and checked and re checked, there is a header leak now as my antilag has killed my up pipe but on the dyno no leaks at all,

Jolly Green Monster 23 November 2011 08:25 PM

got a copy of the graph? seem very laggy

addi monster 23 November 2011 08:26 PM

how much of a job is it to fit a front entry and do you reckon the tdo5 could be on its last legs with the slow spool,.

addi monster 23 November 2011 08:29 PM

just uploading one

prodriverules 23 November 2011 08:29 PM

Not to hard to fit, just need a 90' bend silicone pipe to make up for the lack of the normal snorkel on a tdo5 mate

Jolly Green Monster 23 November 2011 08:31 PM

what he said, but need to make sure the silicone elbow cannot collapse.. as the turbo will suck it shut.

another option is vf48 which i run on my type r.
very good turbo with smooth power delivery.:)

Jolly Green Monster 23 November 2011 09:21 PM

Good power but v laggy.

Something a miss

ukpaisley 23 November 2011 09:28 PM

I get 1 Bat at 2800 RPM on my TD05-16G, Only after I have removed the manual boost control. Could be the control of the boost sol.

addi monster 23 November 2011 09:30 PM

everything is spot on ie boost ect,, could it be a compression(rings) issue or impeller damage as everything else is ok,.

Turbotits 23 November 2011 09:32 PM

I dont think you will notice a great deal of difference in spool from the td05 to the vf35. Cant comment on the 34 as have never used one. I went from a 35 to a td05/18. Spool is 200rpm different. Yours is spooling very late. As Simon say i think theres something else not quite right.

agree thats not, but OP graph appears laggy.. laggier than normal for a td05, seeing as this is his main annoyance / reason for changing the turbo it might be cheaper/easier for him to fix the spool issue on the current turbo :)
