timing belt snapped

i have a my 95 wrx import and was wondering wats the chances of bent valves and if so wats the best route to go down,do i get a set of rebuilt heads from a reputable engine builder or do i go for a engine rebuild altogether...i was only doing 10 miles an hour and coming of a roundabout and it went...

valves will almost certainly be bent.

marcevs72 19 November 2011 01:37 PM

i have a set of low mileage heads off my 93 wrx(done 61k)lovely and quiet mate swapping engine due to big end knocking.

kevin wrx 19 November 2011 01:47 PM

how much

You'll also need to check the valves haven't dented the pistons. If they have they will need changing as the dents will cause high spots which can encourage detonation and also the stress of the damage to the piston crowns can affect their integral strength.

kevin wrx 19 November 2011 03:38 PM

might get a rebuilt engine from api or someone similar

ditchmyster 19 November 2011 07:00 PM

I don't mean to be rude here, but is the car worth it, you can pick up a 95 wrx for less than £2k and the engine will cost you £3k..

Just a thought before you end up with a car thats worth less than £2k and owes you £5k like soooooooooooo many of us :lol1:

As you can buy a well sorted scooby for £5k running close to 400bhp

Pistons normally survive ok when the cam belt breaks - the damage is usually done by Inlet valve to exhaust valve contact which bends them.
Heads off and repair or replace with good ones as in Post #3 would be a viable repair.

As merlin says but pistons need to be checked. Other option is a set of sti3/4 heads which are far better. Bit if on a tight budget and pistons are ok then £50 for a set of heads looks like a good option.

happydude303 20 November 2011 07:13 PM
