Why use music as a ringtone?

I dont get it... Why would you want to use your favourite latest tune as a ringtone for you phone. Clearly by liking it, you want to listen to it.
I thought the idea of a ringtone was to alert you to the fact the phone was ringing, so you can answer it BEFORE it goes to voicemail. :cuckoo:

CREWJ 07 November 2011 03:07 PM

I feel the same way. I used to have my favourite intros as ring tones but these days I just use "ring ring".

boxst 07 November 2011 03:07 PM

I use something different for my SMS tone (1.5 second rift from an Eels song I like) as EVERYONE has iPhones and you never know if it is yours otherwise...

Ant 07 November 2011 03:08 PM

Chavs and kids I find are the people that have them.

Fleetster 07 November 2011 03:08 PM

I have mine on silent :) (mainly cos of work and forget to change it after work lol )

Terminator X 07 November 2011 03:09 PM

Didn't it originate in order that you could distinguish your mobile from every other ... remember the original Nokia tone

TX.

Frosticles 07 November 2011 03:12 PM

I have a very angry ring ring on mine or a screaming pig. :)

Im glad im not the only one that feels this way. Having something recognisable is fine, I do the same, but having whole long tunes is pointless.

You better get used to it when you get on a rush hour train in a couple of hours haha.

Fleetster, im the same, but am looking forwards to messing with some NFC tags to sort that out.

:lol::thumb: excellent

Hanley 07 November 2011 03:20 PM

Always have mine on silent.

I hate it, sitting on a train and someone's phone kicks into life with an Oasis song or whatever and they sit there looking at it....I feel like screaming 'FFS will you answer that!!!'

:D

Hanley 07 November 2011 03:22 PM

Best one I've ever seen, I was on a train to Milton Keynes and the carraige was fairly quiet, all of a sudden the guys phone opposite me starts ringing.......his ring tone was Dancing Queen by Abba....:D......I reckon he'd meant to turn it to silent as he was all flustered and fumbling around trying to get the phone out of his jacket pocket while the entire carraige were p1ssing themselves!!

:D :D :D

CREWJ 07 November 2011 03:45 PM

We were in a meeting and one of my colleagues (Mexican btw) had a mariachi band playing as his ringtone.

We were in stitches!

I have a phone ring. I'm the most individual person ever :D

Snazy 07 November 2011 03:52 PM

lol @ the stories! Oh dear, a great reason not to have 'fancy' ringtones lol.
The thing that irritates me is when someone has an outlandish ringtone and the phone rings, they pick it up, dont want to answer, so place the phone back down... At least press silence?
I have very short and basic notifications for various messages etc, cant be doing with long winded things lol

hutton_d 07 November 2011 04:19 PM

I wanted to be able to distinguish my phone ringing from everyone else's. So I have a classic UK ring tone (the double ring, NOT the US single ring that some have probably thinking old British phones used to sound like that ..... ).

Since most of our office switched to Blackberry, one of the guys has decided he likes all the tones I chose ages ago, so uses the same ones  bastid !

Just put the mp3 file you want into Media/audio/notifications to use it as a text ringtone. To use a song as a phone ringtone go into music and set the song you're playing as phone/caller ring tone

Yes you can :)

FInd the MPŁ, and press play... when its playing press the left menu button... it gives you the option to set it as

Alarm

Caller ringtone

Phone ringtone

JackClark 07 November 2011 05:36 PM

My iPhone vibrates in morse code the name of my top ten callers. Beat that :)

Jamescsti 07 November 2011 05:44 PM

I used to have a bog standard ring ring tone but when ever I heard the tone it seemed half a dozen people were all checking their phones as well.
I know have musicto personalise it, I tend to change it quite frequently too as I have an excellent app for free ring tones and message tones

Try this one...

Catchy and musical enough to start with. You'd want to get to it before the vocal though. A mate said it gave his o/h a bit of a start when she didn't reach his phone in time. :lol1:

I like listening to other people's ringtones, especially if it's something you wouldn't have thought they'd be into IYKWIM.
Mine used to be the theme tune to the Addams Family, amazing how many strangers couldn't resist clicking their fingers when it went off :D

astraboy 07 November 2011 07:50 PM

I try to meet ring tone and catchy tune halfway.
Best I've come up with is this....
