Type R and V Limited

Could someone answer this for me. my mate is after a type r impreza to face up against my new evo 5 i reckon :D. n e ways hes saying that the v limited impreza type r's have a longer gear ratio and can go up to 180mph. is this true i thought all type r's topped out around 150ish because of the close gear box? ty for answers

My penis is bigger than yours...

ukimpreza 09 October 2011 10:00 PM

Master Seanis 09 October 2011 10:01 PM

haha lol no seriously is there a difference in the gear ratios between the type r and type r v limited?

Steve777 09 October 2011 10:03 PM

I seriously doubt it

banny sti 09 October 2011 10:05 PM

It was an optional extra on the limiteds, to have the 5th from the standard sti.

Master Seanis 09 October 2011 10:07 PM

cheers banny so was more like a cruising gear then?

That would be all close ratio then? Std Ltd having entended 5th

To answer your question,,,

No, it won't do 180mph, not even close buddy.

the hamster 09 October 2011 10:56 PM

I have a 754 box with the tallest 5th gear and 3.9 diff and that wont get close to 180. I reckon if I had the balls it would hit 170 at a push, or go pop by then!!

arumdevil 10 October 2011 12:15 AM

the GT-B legacys have top speed of 168. I doubt any subaru is geared higher than that.

rooferman 10 October 2011 07:12 AM

19mph per 1000 rpm .....on the limited gearing.

Turbovin 10 October 2011 12:08 PM

Sounds a bit low, in that case my non limited V5 also has the higher fifth gear? Still it's the car that has the lowest gearing of all I've own so far.

How much does the Type R with the stock fifth rev per 1000 rpm?

Turbovin 10 October 2011 12:35 PM

I'm a bit confused, according to this chart all STI Type R/RA from V3 on should have the 0.825 fifth which gives about 19 mph per 1000 rpm.

banny sti 10 October 2011 12:38 PM

21mph per 1k rpm for regular sti gearing

Yes with the 8k rev limit :thumb:

MattyB1983 10 October 2011 01:08 PM

Banny that would mean a top speed of almost 170mph wouldn't it ?

It equates to 168mph at 8k rpm but tyre size would affect, if you have the power to pull that far....

rooferman 10 October 2011 01:45 PM

Aerodynamics play a big part when calculating top speed.....168mph is the theoretical top speed without other factors as Banny has stated.

The impreza has the aerodynamic design of a brick......lol..

rooferman 10 October 2011 01:47 PM

Still shocked that Andy F managed 214mph or whatever it was a few years back.....

Balls of steel....eh.
