First of all, dont rush into anything just because a paticular example catches your eye. It is very easy to be smitten by these cars. Check as many out as you can and decide which one is the best. then come on the tunnel run :luxhello:

bingedrnker 25 September 2011 09:09 PM

oh ill be on the tunnel run before you know it , i know what you mean though i went to see one the other day and had the money in my hand was a close call sleeping on it made me come to my senses !
if it wasnt for insurance id probly pick an import up but with the quotes uk model is all i can afford still talking near £200 a month though insurance has just gone silly

Tom WRX RA 25 September 2011 11:16 PM

Yeah insurance is a pain I had a renewal of 1500 from 1000 last year but managed to get it down to 800 on my imported RA with a japenese import specialist, insurance history in a performance car is important and also a decent alarm helps to bring it down

Razorwrx1 25 September 2011 11:20 PM

Insurance is crazy now. Even more so on these. As above, just see as many as you can. There's loads out there at the mo and one will have your name on it. FSH is a must, with regular oil changes. Rear shocks going is a common problem. Fronts seem to be ok. Ask if it's been Decatted or not. Prob tell with the sound:lol1: Just for MOT's and Cell Lights etc. I've got the newage one so I'm not that sure on Classics. Afew others on here will help you out soon enough buddy.

Good Luck:thumb:

hi - whats your budget:wonder:

bingedrnker 26 September 2011 12:51 AM

Well thanks for the speedy advice people like I said I was suggested to come here get some notes from you lot sounds like your going to play a major role in the next few years of my car life , good alarm check , history check , rear shocks hmmm not too sure how ill know .. but de carted oh ill know about that its the sound and the look of these cars that has me hooked can tell when one is coming from a mile round a corner from the burble

Need to check out the local forums and clubs
Cheshire ?
So you have the LADS ,north Wales group and of course the CADS all within your area
Bit further afield Cumbrian Scoobs ,south Scottish group and TTS and NESF in the north east
Always some cars getting sold and are club cars so well known and documented
Why not go along to club meeting and get talking to the people who will have their cars there and they will give you hands on advice what to look for and of course there will be some that they know off for sale
We also have the Blackpool lights run
Check out northern and there will be over 100 cars going so always a good chance to look around

pimmo2000 26 September 2011 07:55 AM

If you don't like good customer care you could try Graham Walker :)

Failing that, I always find dealers to give you an idea of how much a model is worth .. take about £1k off the price they have them for sale for :)

Buying from a long term member on here too is a good idea, use the search function to check out any issues they've had ..

bingedrnker 26 September 2011 08:51 AM

All great tips people ill try and find out a local meet and pop up as ling as I'm not going to get laughed at in the golf (waits for the sniggers) ill try not to so my usual and jump in feet first brain later !

Welcome :D
Get yourself registered with our club, link below in my sig. We're only a stones throw away from the Wirral just past Queensferry. Our chairman (richgreenscooby1) is a subaru mechanic and I'm sure he'll be happy to advise you with any queries you may have.
Take your time and take a good, long look at any cars you go to view, including any paperwork that comes with them. Be prepared to travel for a good one too.

Classics are fairly solid but watch out for rusty rear wheel arches, a common problem on theses unfortunately.

Good luck with your search :thumb:

Agree with Pimmo have a look at Graham Walkers to give you an idea on prices and yes you are looking at dealer prices with them. http://www.grahamwalkerltd.co.uk/use...=2&make=SUBARU got my last 2 cars from them and happy with both.

Clubs Cheshire and District Scoobies http://www.cadscoobies.com/forum/Blah.pl? couple of us from the wirral in this

also North Wales & Chester Scooby Club http://www.nwcscoobyclub.co.uk/forum/ I'm in both lol

Post up approx how much you looking to spend and the folks on here will be able to advise what you can realistically look to get for your money.

ps dont forget to look out for the tunnel run posts on here if you like the burble it is awsome with 20+ cars going through the new tunnel :thumb:

Think I may have found one bit older than I wanted but as I said insurance has really pushed my budget down . Going to oswestry tomorrow to have a look sounds genuine and looks tidy enough needs a few bits but for the money can't complain so all being good I may be in the gang by the weekend .. and you can all tell me if I did a good job next tunnel run

stucooper 26 September 2011 11:54 PM
