Im going to take a stab and say the metal part is making contact with the inside of the wheel.

mattster12 01 September 2011 06:12 PM

Isn't that what the metal bits for?

jayallen 01 September 2011 06:25 PM

Sorry was meant to be to read "not" making contact....If you touch the wire on the on metal does it sound the horn?

mattster12 01 September 2011 06:40 PM

The wire is solid and wont reach.

if you put the wire to the metal part will the horn work? taking the button out of the circuit at this time, it rules out the hub/adapter wiring out.

There should be two wires and two contact points, earth and live. Where's the earth wire gone?

mattster12 01 September 2011 11:50 PM

When I disconnected the old wheel wiring ther were 2 plugs. one for airbag which i put resistor in to take out the airbag light and the one plug from the horn with 1 wire coming from it. The horn wire that came with the new boss is the same as the one in the old wheel.

Does the other connector on the back of the horn push need a wire to a negative earth? One didn't come with the boss kit.:wonder:

The metal bit that sticks out at the side of the horn push i think is suposed to earth on the hub metal from what i have read. But this is not happening. Surely the metal on the hub which is in contact with the steering column is an earth?

Correct....Touch the wire on the column to see if the horn is working, if it sounds then its either the metal part is not touching or the button is fooked.

mattster12 02 September 2011 07:55 AM

if i touch the wire on the metal part of the boss the horn doesn't sound:wonder:

There's two spade connectors there, you're clearly missing something.

Maybe the airbag wire provded a ground for the horn.

That piece sticking out the side is just a clip to hold the horn in place.

Take a spare piece of wire and connect it to the spare spade connector, and ground the other end of the wire - Then press the horn.

Thanks everyone for your help and replies but I have now managed to sort it.
The wiring that came with the works bell for the horn was faulty as when I tested it with my multimeter there was no current running through it. I have sorted it though because the wiring from the original steering wheel is the same as the one suplied in the works bell kit. The earth is the metal tag out the side of the horn push and it earths on the boss.

So happy its now sorted.:D

Hmm, I might have a duff horn push, mine doesn't earth through the clip protuding out of the horn push, so I just bent the spare tab round so it contacts the boss, bingo bango, horn works.

Literally just fitted the same setup (except with a HKB boss) on mine, lovely :)

mine earths from the clip but I did pull it out a bit so it made a good contact.
