Any suggestions would be great, apart from at least get the camera the right way you idiot:thumb:

Could be the aux air valve needs a clean as it can get carbon build up inside over time and cause rough idle, another problem could be a split in one of the pipes on the inlet manifold.

thansk for the quick response mate. where is the aux valve located mate.

Its on the throttle body housing and held on with 2 retaining screws/bolts and is easily removed,if you leave it soak without completely submerging the electrical part[only the plunger end] and also clean out the hole to which the unit came from and then try it again again.
It may take a little drive to settle it back down and find the idle point after refitting the unit so don't be surprised if it doesn't work straight away mate:thumb:
Look around for a split pipe also and listen when the engine is running for a hissing noise.

It can also hunt if your maf sensor is fubar'd :( (remember this is an MY99 :lol1: )
Always worth cleaning the ICV out too whilst your at it, but had this problem on my MY99 V5 STI type R, cured by replacing the MAF sensor.

Tony:)

My 99 type r just started doing this today. It just sits there bobbing up and down random.
Later this afternoon it went back to normal for a while, until I just put it away just now (the car),it's doing it again.

When I bought my 99 uk classic it had the same problem, it turned out to be the maf sensor.

Mr moff 25 August 2011 07:36 PM

Is there a video or thread anywhere with a guide to getting the maf out?
Every time I try the search function it always comes up with zero results.

Danny.

Its easy enough though the screws are the security type, so it does help if you have a set of drivers that can do it ;) then its just 2 screws, maf out, new maf in, do screws, reset ecu, all done :D

Tony:)

This is the part number for maf 99 uk turbo 22794AA010

Go pound land, buy brake cleaner & spray the maf lightly & let it dry.

You can't do that with the MY99/00 MAF's, they are too sensitive, you could with the older ones but once these start doing the hunting, they are usually already beyond help :(

Dont know if the STi V5 have the same MAF's? but we tryed the brake cleaner & it was fine for a 'few months'.

Worth a try though, if not then just bin it!

Mr moff 25 August 2011 07:57 PM

Thanks for the info,I'll order one for Tuesday.:thumb:

Danny.

TonyBurns 25 August 2011 07:58 PM

They have a very thin element which breaks if it has too much vibration (normally from fitting induction kits :lol1: ) or just dirt/oil deposits, and these are pretty cheap anyway, much cheaper than an engine rebuild with a dodgy one in there :(

Tony:)

thanks for all the replys guys. i have cleaned the ICV. I have a blitz dump valve (i know i know) i have cleaned that and sprayed with lubricant. I have cleaned the MAF sensor with break cleaner. Problem has stopped for the time being. As long as i can get till payday then order a new MAF to be on the safe side

Mr moff 29 August 2011 12:13 PM

I just thought I'd update this thread as my maf turned up Saturday.
I did what Tony said and swapped it and reset the ecu.Problem solved.
It runs much nicer now at low revs as well,no hesitation and well worth changing.

Cheers Tony.

Danny.

hpoolsteve 06 September 2011 04:44 PM

Maf now changed and all is good. Car is alot more drivable now

beliblisk 17 November 2011 11:39 AM

So clean ICV and if that doesnt help change MAF?

I have slight idle rev variations and little hasitation around 2-2,5k but all works splendid over 3k.

I drive V6 euro classic.

Thanks for the help

Failed or failing mafs "end" engines. Cleaning it instead of replacing in some cases is the same as choosing between spending £80 or £2k!!

alcazar 17 November 2011 12:43 PM

As above.

Can you get it to a specialist, and I don't mean a dealer?

beliblisk 17 November 2011 01:20 PM

Not really,we dont have specialists for MAF sensors here in Slovenia:)

alcazar 17 November 2011 03:00 PM

You're in SLOVENIA?

I thought Slovenia was closed. There can't be many of you left, judging by how many are in my town;)

beliblisk 17 November 2011 05:43 PM

Lol only 2 mil left(how can be country closed any way?:P):)

Ill try cleaning ICV and boost selenoid next week and report how it goes.
Idle seems to be preaty normal most of the time it just bothers me that slight hesitation from 2-2.5k::(

beliblisk 21 November 2011 02:02 PM

What label MAF sensor should 2000 UK classic have?

Mine current doesnt have any labels or numbers:S

Also where can i buy new one (do any uprated after market one exist)?

Thanks

alcazar 21 November 2011 03:10 PM

How can a country be closed? Try going to Holland, last two weeks of July, first two in August.
They are ALL in France;)

beliblisk 21 November 2011 06:16 PM

Its just the opposit here, more people come than go for holidays:P

Now tell me what i wanna know:)

beliblisk 25 November 2011 11:58 AM
