Subaru Impreza AWD/4WD, GX/Sport Tuning Help!

Hi I am looking at getting a Subaru Impreza AWD or 4WD GX Sport and wanted to know about tuning them, Costs is not a problem. I am looking for any help, tips and advice any one can give us. I am looking for advice on getting extra BHP, brakes, lowering the car, and any other performance I can get out of the car. Any help would be great, please dont reply saying just wait 10 years and get a WRX or any thing along them lines thanks ;) because I can get insuranced on a GX sport with mods ect... But not a WRX. A list of parts and what they cost would be a great help! I was thinking of starting with the brakes to keep it safe, then.... Help
One more thing which would be better to go with, a AWD or a 4WD gx sport 2004? I was told the MGP in the 4WD was poor and it MAY be better in a AWD, but I am not sure? So any help from you scooby heads would be great! Thanks :notworthy

One thing you need to do in a sport is sort that suspension out. Standard its to bouncey

Check with your insurance about modifications, guessing you are young and you may find this an issue or prohibitive cost or even cover wise.:)

It will cost a bit more, but I can still get it and pay it so I am going to try :) Any help on the mods will be great thanks!

You are not going to get much out of the n/a boxer unit without spending serious cash. The 4wd system saps power so it is not going to be as quick as another car with similar BHP. also the 4wd drivetrain all adds weight. you can get it handling better and exploit the 4wd which will make it quicker in the real world. Uprate the suspension and brakes, buy some 4 pots and disks from a turbo for the front is a cheapish upgrade. You will also need bigger wheels (than std 15" sport rims).

exhaust - will not give you much more power but it will sound nicer!:)

If look hard enough and brokers etc you will get quotes on a wrx even if you are 19/20. The money modding a gx vrs paying the difference between the gx and wrx will be better spent in this case on the insurance for better enjoyment of subaru ownership. And near exact same mpg consumption on both driving normal day to day.

Get some wrx or STI suspension, brakes, as above, and fit an antiroll bar on the rear as the sport dont have one on the rear, that will make a big difference to the feel of the car.

I had one and enjoyed it a lot. Dont, however, expect it to be a poor mans turbo. If you do you will be disappointed.

Take a look here for more sport specific info.

Forget it mate, there's better N/A cars out there for less money, concentrate on getting older, build up your no claims and then get a turbo. Buy a Sport and spend money on it to make it look like a dog's dinner will only lead to regret when you get older and wiser.
