Recommend me a car...

Hey lads, here's the story. I'm looking to get a new car as i've got a bit of money to spend. Around £5000. Since i passed my test 2 years ago ive had a Subaru Justy, Saxo VTR and i'm currently driving a Toyota Starlet Glanza Turbo. Just don't like the look of the starlet anymore and fancy something different.
This is what the criteria needs to fitt.

1. Needs to be a bit nippy
2. Need to be able to insure it, so dont you all say an impreza lol (I'm 19 in July and will hopefully have 2 years no claims)
3. Needs to be cool and not too common
4. Needs to do decent MPG

What are your suggestions guys as i looked at everything now!

Mk3 Ibiza Cupra and some money to spend modifying it

craigyp 07 June 2011 06:35 PM

Clio 182 mate :) cheap to run and not bad to insure

Christof89 07 June 2011 06:44 PM

I had a turbo 2000 at 19 with 2 years no claims ;)

ryan33hks 07 June 2011 07:11 PM

Was considering a 182 but hate the interior and their pretty common around here. A turbo 2000 be to uneconomical for me ;)

craigyp 07 June 2011 07:15 PM

Look at the 182 trophy then... U not see many of them and they have recaro bucket seats.. Really nice cars and only come in red :)

namron 07 June 2011 07:16 PM

Honda Civic Type R EP3.

scooby-boy-123 07 June 2011 07:18 PM

Any of these which ive had myself should suit your criteria--- fiesta st, civic type r, clio 182, focus st170 (cheap), ibiza cupra r, or leon r, golf gti turbo. All are good cars but as for insurance i dont know what theyll cost for you but as you have a glanza then you should beable to get cover on them.

Subaru nippy?

if Subaru nippy it wont be easy to insure because of its potential to thieves

unfortunately cars like this will not have exclusivity

unfortunately cars like this will not have a decent mpg.

have you considered a D-Turbo?

No not subaru nippy, my glanza is roughly 145bhp so around 180+ would be fine.

Hello mate ,

I Think The Smart fortwo Brabus ticks All your boxes does 50 Mpg, 74 bhp pretty nippy.
You can buy a 05-06 low mileage 5-6 k. Will save you so much money on petrol mate :)

Or You could Buy A Smart Roadster brabus ,brabus roadsters are 101 bhp for 5k it will be a 04 or 05 but high mileage Proper go Kart. Still 50 mpg+

How much for an old Scoob?

triggster 07 June 2011 11:09 PM

What about a diesel ? astra sri cdti 150 ?? plenty or torque and economy, they are coming in around 5k with not too many miles, on the astra network they all put the dtuk chip box on, supposed to give around 190bhp and 310ftlb torque's !!!

Read the OP. He's 19. He could drop £2000 on a WRX/UK Turbo and piss the rest against the wall in insurance. And he's my "adopted " son :D.

EH52WRX 07 June 2011 11:22 PM

Get a Seat Cupra TDI 150bhp chipped to 200bhp.

mervil 07 June 2011 11:25 PM

Ian, the MR-poo Turbo would sh1t the poor boy up if there's any ounce of damp on the ground! :lol1:

Ryan, I would whole heartidly (sp?) consider a 172/182 Cup! Have a pop down to mine to see the mrs' new one, absolutely mint to drive! With the money you save, get some uprated brakes and a few other styling mods ;)
