Nice one! :)

Next time you're in Halfords, take a look at the price of their windscreen wipers, particularly the flat ones . Then compare the price at a local motor factors.....

Paulo P 07 June 2011 12:04 AM

Where possible I avoid Halfords at all costs, their tools aren't bad quality though :)

jaygsi 07 June 2011 01:06 AM

Mugs go to halfords, my mate keeps going there for alloys but keep telling him they rip you off

P1 LTD 07 June 2011 01:19 AM

Go Halfrauds all the time for bits for the car! Untill i shopped around same stuff much cheaper! Like mentioned above there tools are not too bad! :thumb:

dean_gti 07 June 2011 03:39 AM

Hell no, local motor factor for little bits. I do admit to having some halfords pro spanners and 2 of their torque wrenches though....... good they are too.

Rip offs though for anything else.

With the discount on their trade card, I figure the public are funding it.

When they do 3 for 2 on consumables, they more or less match other stockists or on-line sellers, which is the only time I go there.

CREWJ 07 June 2011 08:13 AM

I bought a wiper blade about two weeks ago on trade and got over 75% off. Says it all really.

alphaj12 07 June 2011 09:53 AM

Their pricing makes no sense at all. Was in Tescos and 325ml of Autoglym super resin polish £11.00, I thought no was I am paying that. Went to Halfords and fair enough 325ml was £10.99 but 500ml was 11.99 and 1L was £15.99, So I now have enough polish to last me a lifetime. It was 3 for 2 as well but resisted buying stuff I didn't need. Cracking price for a litre of the stuff but who wants a litre all in one go!!!!!!

Although Carlube is ok, Halfords usually use Comma as their own brand fluids.

the best thing about Halfrauds is that they are open on a Sunday and are handy to pop into when you realise you haven't got something that you need to finish doing what you are doing, admitted they are dear for most things but are handy sometimes, also their "experts" will offer to fit part's for you :D

I do like the convenience of it all. When I bought that wiper the guy was really pushing to fit it for me.

You can get the odd good deal in Halfords. I bought the Meguirs 3 stage polish on the 3 for 2 shelf it was :thumb:

Like everything else I suppose, shop around and you can pick up a bargain in some strange places :wonder:

kj200sx 07 June 2011 12:06 PM

always thought carlube was like the happy shopper of the car world or have there products improved?

Their tools are made by Snap On. Still Avoid at all cost and use your local factors.

CREWJ 07 June 2011 12:48 PM

They do have a good returns policy on their tools. If I've ever broke something they just replace it.

Exactly :p and with trade discount they have competitive prices.

Panda82 07 June 2011 01:51 PM

i use halfruads quite a bit. but i take me little bro along and use his trade card. it shows how much they mark everything up as we have had over 75% off of the shelf price with the trade card at times.

RS_Matt 07 June 2011 02:12 PM

Shame they don't do remaps as I think Halfords is the only company I trust with Subarus now :(

Rob Day 08 June 2011 10:11 PM

Hevent been Halfords now for 11 years. Last time I went for a last ditch attempt to get a socket set and Haynes for a Escort Mk3 RS Series 1 engine transplant. Still got the Socket set to date, and its great, but they are fcuking useless for advice and expensive.

Theyre really not, thats a myth. Dont get me wrong, I have a full set of halfords professional ratchets and sockets that get used everyday in my box at work, but I also have a proper snap-on set to compare them to....

davedipster 08 June 2011 10:35 PM

With my trade card halfords can be a good deal.

scoobyster 08 June 2011 10:39 PM

As above Halfords is great with a trade card, particularly on a Sunday when no where else is open! Shame they don't do a better range of fixings, but otherwise they've got a pretty good stock of stuff I find, not as 'dumbed down' as they could be.

Wilkinsons do Comma brake fluid for under £3 though, think it's probably only a 500ml tub but that's enough for most purposes.

It's about that, we've bought it before. And to an earlier poster, Autoglym polish ia £8.77 at Wilkos too. :thumb:

That said, although the prices are fairly good for what they sell, the range is very small. Which is a shame.

The thing with Halfords is, they are convenient/handy. Sunday/late opening certainly helps along with the fact they have a fairly good range of stock. Sadly, with that comes inflated prices. I also have to say on recent experience, customer service leaves a little to be desired (and I rarely ever expect help in a shop) considering I work in retail myself and know what is expected of us. But that is another thread entirely.
