If its heavily stained, you can use a very fine wire wool, along with any good metal polish. I also use autosol to good affect.

Myles 08 May 2011 04:14 PM

Autosol also.

Strictly then it can't "rust"as it's not iron oxide ...... which I guess greatgonzo was saying :)

Shaun

that's what i thought and is why it's annoying! i best get some pics up because it looks like rust to me but could be something else! Will try and sort some out later this evening.

greatgonzo 10 May 2011 05:42 PM

Shaun is correct, it shouldn't rust, its probably pitted by other contaminants that have rusted :(

IainMilford 10 May 2011 06:25 PM

it did once get completely coated in salt during the winter probably hasn't helped....

IainMilford 10 May 2011 09:49 PM

Another vote for using Solvol Autosol after 10 minutes of patient application it will be shining like a new one. Did mine last month.

TelBoy 18 July 2011 03:43 PM

That pic doesn't show rust, that's discolouration of stainless steel which is inevitable when it gets heated to the temperature of a typical exhaust. I also use Autosol and my exhaust looks the same. You'll end up with nice shiny discolouration but you'll never get it back to as-new silver colour.

i found autosol was the tits i love a shiney exhaust esp on my black scoob once a week its done and looks brand new!!

95turbowagon 18 July 2011 06:10 PM

i nevet thought of that just assumed it was rust, i didn't use any polish on my exhaust for the first 2 years and wondered if 'damage' was caused then

thanks mate :thumb:

timmyajmy93wrx 29 July 2011 04:56 PM

would still only use the wire wool as a last resort as it will still faintly scratch the finish.
I use the megs nxt metal polish & g101 etc to help clean it up, let it soak in etc & keep having a go at it before the wire
wool goes on it.
