^^^ Cheers

MalcB 07 May 2011 09:33 PM

Supply and fit or fit only?

gettintherequick 07 May 2011 09:34 PM

Just fit, engine manifold new lume etc..

gordy07 07 May 2011 10:24 PM

£700? ish

gettintherequick 07 May 2011 10:32 PM

my 96 wrx jdm engine blew yesterday. Iv been quoted a grand for an sti redtop engine manifolds lume and ecu is this a decent price for this engine apparently only 70k km on the engine. I am going to try and get a deal to fit the engine to

gordy07 07 May 2011 10:43 PM

What version STi engine closed block? Are you getting turbo etc is there any way of checking the mileage and can you hear it running before you buy it?

gettintherequick 07 May 2011 10:48 PM

Havent got all the details only spoke briefly. What should i be looking for is there any benefit over a closed block?

gordy07 07 May 2011 11:08 PM

The closed deck block i have been told is the strongest but that doesnt mean its the one you have to go for.If this STi one your looking at is a good one then it would be fine.I was wondering what version/year the engine was out of as this would affect the price(in my eyes)

gettintherequick 07 May 2011 11:12 PM

Yea me to going to find out all the details on monday i would expect the fitting of the engine to be cheaper than £700 tbh il be taking the bust engine out myself i would expect price to be 3-400..

gordy07 07 May 2011 11:17 PM

Good luck i hope its a good one.Yeah it would be cheaper if you were removing the old one i was just trying to give you a figure so that you got an idea on removal/fitting price.Every garage is different cheapest is not always best especially when turbocharged cars are involved.

gettintherequick 07 May 2011 11:20 PM

Thanks. i was considering gettin her rebuilt and sellin her coz if the engine went again there would be no way i could afford to put a new one in..:brickwall

gordy07 07 May 2011 11:25 PM

I just had mine rebuilt (after my timing belt snapped )with a bottom end out a uk300 and v5 heads into my00 STi v6 it cost me just shy of 2k i couldnt afford it at the time but i couldnt afford to sell it broken and now its rebuilt i love it all over again. The car owes me too much money now to sell it but i am confident that the engine is going to be strong and not need rebuilt again if it does then i would break it but thats life

gettintherequick 07 May 2011 11:41 PM

Its so hard to know what to do as my head tells me fix it and sell it but my heart says new engine and keep it! Im sure your probably the same as me

gordy07 07 May 2011 11:44 PM

I was exactly the same but once it was fixed i listened to my heart and kept it,love it!!! If you sell it you will have to get something else and you know it will be compared to the scooby and wont even be close.

Got an offer on a newage sti bottom end do you think i should maybe do that and keep my head or jus swap completely??

TonyBurns 08 May 2011 10:15 AM

Where are you getting the engine from? (may be saving you some hassle here!)

Tony:)

gettintherequick 08 May 2011 10:46 AM

Im in northern ireland bud,im considering two engines one from gibson autos banbriddge and one from japtuningsolutions hilltown..

WMS 08 May 2011 01:53 PM

A closed deck block engine is not a stronger engine, the internals are the same as any other engine of that age, the only advantage to a CDB is at high boost they give better head gasket sealing.

£30 an hour labour 10 hours work..

I would expect it to be more if a new loom and ecu were to be fitted

Yea im considering it iv fitted engines before just never a scooby and i don't know if the sti engine can be put into my car. Had a discussion with one of the garages and they said id need my manifold, injectors and ecu to run the engine. I want to do a complete swap so put the sti engine complete with ecu and loom into my car but now this guy has me doubting if it can even be done??
