Full decat means it should be mapped, I'd ask that before going any further :thumb:

Maz 26 April 2011 08:48 PM

Seems okay but it needs going over with a comb (as you would with any car). I would look in the for sale section, there may be a bargain in there.

A remap would optimise things but isn't necessary for a decat. You will get less back pressure and a slight rise in boost but nothing that ecu wouldn't account for.

Maz 26 April 2011 08:59 PM

Now that is nice. It's modded but all nicely done and it's got lots of extras. Well worth checking out, it's a newer model too.

Cempa 26 April 2011 09:09 PM

my main concern is buying a headache, we have just killed the engine in our current car (non Subaru) and its 4k+ for a new short block so have opted to go back to a scooby and cut our losses on the other car and either sell it as is or ill break it. what im worried about is spending 4-5k on a scoob only to get a massive repair bill anyway a few months down the line.

guess i think that a standard car with full history will be more reliable than a highly fettled one. this is when you all tell me im wrong on that score lol

Looks a nice car, but the price may be a bit high.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...ideScoob-1.jpg

As an example, mine has a higher mileage at 96k, but similarly well looked after with FSH and with a Hybrid TD04 turbo mapped by Andy F, H&S sports cat exhaust with Prodrive back box, Prodrive springs, Whiteline ARB and EBC Bluestuff brakes pads with braided hoses. A very driveable 301bhp, with 4 tyres bought today, service MOT two weeks ago.

When I put the ad up here in a couple of days I'll ask for a fair bit less than the ad above.

EH52WRX 26 April 2011 09:29 PM

I think it is over priced. IMO

Better buying an Sti if you can afford it.

neilwrx 26 April 2011 09:30 PM

totally agree with andythejock its a buyers market and loads of decent imprezas around for the same money goodluck in your search just hope when i get rid of my st prices are still rock bottom

Cempa 26 April 2011 09:39 PM

yeah would ideally love a pretty standard STI but dont think ive seen one in our price range without having huge millage, i think about 4.5k is prob as high as we can go so think it will have to be a WRX :/

You could always buy this and I'll help you return it to standard - I'll even help recycle your old parts and let you have mine to achieve standard:D

Seriously, there's plenty of good cars well within your price range that are tidy and well cared for, just don't rush in and the ideal car will come along in no time:thumb:

yeah looks nice but its £5400 so out of our budget, sounds like it needs a UK map or can it run long term on UK high octane..

wrx fifer 26 April 2011 09:48 PM

the problem is always when you buy a wrx, you just wish you had got the sti lol

I know that feeling, but I couldn't wait 2-years for the prices of STIs to come into my price budget:D

You need to examine any perspective car with a fine tooth comb as someone has already suggested. There has been a post on here in the last few days from someone after a WRX with PPP, which must have FSH. Te poster has viewed many advertised as such, but under scrutiny, that is not the case. You have set your budget. The car you posted is certainly worthy of further inspection. Ask for dates and mileages of services to ensure you don't waste your hard earned looking at a car without a proper history from the offset. The WRX is a great car. If you were to remap that one you would see around 260 to 270 bhp for £350.

Actually looks like a reasonable example of a Bug WRX, no a-pillar radio mast so MY correct. Worth about £2.6k on a good day I'm afraid

Cempa 26 April 2011 10:07 PM

yeah i no what you mean but times not on our side, if it turns out we have defo killed our other car (waiting for garage report) then we will need to get one asap as our only other form of transport for me and the kids is a ford (call me a pikey) Transit van or a GSXR 750 lol

yeah i read his posts about sellers not being able to produce the paper work, mind you i think ShaneH's car is mostly diy servicing, but a bit different when its a forum member i guess...

JonMc 26 April 2011 10:14 PM

Most of my car servicing is done by me, but I have receipts for oils, plugs, filters etc to show that I have bought the materials - it as much evidence as a garage will provide unless you sit and watch them do it, and it is my car that I would rather not fork out for expensive repairs on so I have an incentive. A car maintained by a competent enthusiast is a good buy in my book, maintained by someone wanting to skimp on bills less so:wonder:

yeah id agree with that, as you say if the bills are there for the service parts and theres proof of the cam belt etc then thats good enough for me..

we had a WRX classic about 5yrs ago, bought on a whim from a non Subaru dealer, in the first month the clutch and turbo both went, luckily they did the repairs under warranty. i then spent several grand on tricking it up, full decat and map, 18 inch rims, sti interior etc. might as well just have bought a STI lol

i think if i can buy from a forum member and others vouch for him and the car, then thats the way to go...

JonMc 26 April 2011 10:33 PM

And having modded one already, you think you can resist with the next one:lol1:

Cempa 26 April 2011 10:36 PM

emm must resist lol....

Had car valeters that used to turn up at my old work. Never bothered with them cos I reckoned I did a better job myself! :lol1:

Tougher now since I have two Scoobs.
