xbox 360 scart v hdmi ??

Son has the new style xbox 360 hooked up to a 32" flat screen tv in his bedroom and must admitt personally am very impressed with the pic quality, just wonder if there would be any advantage to using an hdmi cable over the scart cable used just now ?? is it possible to get HD quality ??

jsh1 08 April 2011 09:04 PM

Yep, sure is.

The XBox is capable of outputting 1080P full HD on the HDMI output and will make a huge difference to the picture quality.

If your TV is not full HD, just set the XBox to 720P which will optimise it for an HD ready screen.

Finally, enjoy.....

jono300 08 April 2011 09:15 PM

jono300 08 April 2011 09:26 PM

Deffinatly hdmi as opposed to vga cable required guys ?? just a bit confused as both seem to advertise as being able to do the same job - hd quality ??? will have to check sons new style gloss black 360 but deffinatly has an hdmi style port yep ??

ScoobyJawa 08 April 2011 09:49 PM

There are 3 things capable of HD - VGA, Component or HDMI for HD.

VGA and component will give you 1080i and 720p (aka HD Ready).

The latter is the only one on the xbox capable of 1080p (Full HD), but if you have an HDMI on the xbox and one on the telly (even if its only an HD Ready TV) TBH thats the one to go for.

hdmi- digital vga- analogue

go for hdmi, the black gloss ones will have hdmi output

VGA actually gives me 768p on my Samsung plasma screen :)

I only took the hdmi lead out as i have just moved, found the old tenants left a sky hd box in the living room, and my tv only accepts 1 hdmi input :lol1:

So i used the hdmi for my new sky box and hooked up the tv with the vga lead instead.

StickyMicky 10 April 2011 06:27 AM

FWIW i think the VGA lead will give you any screen res you like, pretty sure i saw a 1920 x 1080 screen res yesterday when i was looking on the console settings dash.

Littleted 11 April 2011 06:21 PM

VGA doesnt have a MAX AFAIK

Ive run 2500x1500 on VGA once

Obviously Digital is crisper clearer and better

Are they bollocks!

Nearly all 360 games are 720p OR LESS resolution.... anything hoofed to a 1080p screen is only upscaled (by the 360 if that output res is chosen), not natively 1080p. Just the same principal of upscaling a DVD player to 1080p. A few games are natively 1080p compatible but these are few and far between, but what do you expect from a GFX chipset that is older than God's Dog.

Ant 13 April 2011 07:07 AM

I stand corrected then, but there isn't many 1080p native games for the ps3 either.

ScoobySteve69 13 April 2011 09:21 AM

Ummmm, my 360 doesn`t even have a scart option anyway :wonder: Only have an HDMI socket!

Saint AAI 13 April 2011 10:49 AM

Op will mean the AV out, composite cable running into a scart connector. HDMI will be a huge improvement over this.

Every game which is only for PS3(PS3 exclusive) is only native 1080p,not as Xbox where are all games upscaled to 1080p
Final Fantasy is on Xbox 360 in 720p(video or CGI movies are in 1080P,but game play is in 576p,not even HD) and on PS3 is 1080p

Yes it does.... you need the appropriate AV to RGB SCART lead.

That would only work on non-progressive scan signals, i.e. interlaced. I'm not sure if the 360 outputs an interlaced signal over component output, as this output would really be for progressive 480p signals (at least).

AV to RGB SCART works for sure.

Absolutely... but I think there are more native 1080p games for the PS3 than for the 360. This is to be expected to a degree since I believe the GFX has more balls in the PS3.

Resolution is a bit of a geeky thing imo. If you look at what has been achieved with something like Crysis 2 on the 360, you realise it is more than being about the resolution. :)

Only PC gamers spank their chimps over how many pixels they can achieve! :D

Okay guys HDMI cable has arrived, do I need to change a setting on the 360 itself to gain the benefits off the hdmi cable ??

Quote " If your TV is not full HD, just set the XBox to 720P which will optimise it for an HD ready screen.

Not too sure if the tv is full HD ?? how do I set the 360 to give this 720P setting ??

Okay got it this time changed to 1080p and says 1360X768 @60Hz and your right the picture quality is superb !!

thanks again guys appreciatte that.

Oh yeah, d`oh!

Littleted 13 April 2011 05:07 PM

the PS3 dont forget is Blu Ray so it has to support 1080P as this is normally what Blu Ray is.

Wonder when MS will fit Blu Ray in their Xboxs, now that would be weird sony getting inside the xbox :)

Ant 13 April 2011 05:22 PM

It wont happen, in the 360 anyway.

If they wanted bluray it'd be in the latest model

Littleted 13 April 2011 05:35 PM

itll be downloadable content i reakon

Change it to 720p output from the 360 as your TV is HD ready as opposed Full HD, if I read what you have said correctly. You will be over processing the image if this is the case.

Don't confuse the Blu-Ray side with the graphics output of the PS3 though.... they are totally unrelated. :)
