xbox 360 scart v hdmi ??
Son has the new style xbox 360 hooked up to a 32" flat screen tv in his bedroom and must admitt personally am very impressed with the pic quality, just wonder if there would be any advantage to using an hdmi cable over the scart cable used just now ?? is it possible to get HD quality ??

Yep, sure is.
The XBox is capable of outputting 1080P full HD on the HDMI output and will make a huge difference to the picture quality.
If your TV is not full HD, just set the XBox to 720P which will optimise it for an HD ready screen.
Finally, enjoy.....

There are 3 things capable of HD - VGA, Component or HDMI for HD.
VGA and component will give you 1080i and 720p (aka HD Ready).
The latter is the only one on the xbox capable of 1080p (Full HD), but if you have an HDMI on the xbox and one on the telly (even if its only an HD Ready TV) TBH thats the one to go for.

I only took the hdmi lead out as i have just moved, found the old tenants left a sky hd box in the living room, and my tv only accepts 1 hdmi input
So i used the hdmi for my new sky box and hooked up the tv with the vga lead instead.

FWIW i think the VGA lead will give you any screen res you like, pretty sure i saw a 1920 x 1080 screen res yesterday when i was looking on the console settings dash.

Nearly all 360 games are 720p OR LESS resolution.... anything hoofed to a 1080p screen is only upscaled (by the 360 if that output res is chosen), not natively 1080p. Just the same principal of upscaling a DVD player to 1080p. A few games are natively 1080p compatible but these are few and far between, but what do you expect from a GFX chipset that is older than God's Dog.

AV to RGB SCART works for sure.

Resolution is a bit of a geeky thing imo. If you look at what has been achieved with something like Crysis 2 on the 360, you realise it is more than being about the resolution.
Only PC gamers spank their chimps over how many pixels they can achieve!

Okay guys HDMI cable has arrived, do I need to change a setting on the 360 itself to gain the benefits off the hdmi cable ??
Quote " If your TV is not full HD, just set the XBox to 720P which will optimise it for an HD ready screen.
Not too sure if the tv is full HD ?? how do I set the 360 to give this 720P setting ??
Okay got it this time changed to 1080p and says 1360X768 @60Hz and your right the picture quality is superb !!

the PS3 dont forget is Blu Ray so it has to support 1080P as this is normally what Blu Ray is.
Wonder when MS will fit Blu Ray in their Xboxs, now that would be weird sony getting inside the xbox

Don't confuse the Blu-Ray side with the graphics output of the PS3 though.... they are totally unrelated.
