1st Class stamps have gone up 5p today, 46p to post a letter...do we get a better service for the 15% hike....like hell we do, rant over.

If you were anywhere else in Europe it would cost a heck of a lot more.

try refining petrol yourself for £1.30 a litre yet people moan etc etc you cant just base it on try doing it yourself for xxx

You're paying too much. Parcels2go £8 for 15kg for us

I said it on the last thread about this that I think it's quite good value actually. Especially if you live in Lands End and have family in John O'Groats :D

Since the government opened up the postal market to competition the price has gone up quite a lot, due to the fact that royal mail's competitors cherry picked the profitable parts of the business which subsidised the universal postal service for the rest of us, leaving royal mail in the position where they still had to provide a universal postal service for all without having the profitable parts of its business to subsidise it, hence the price increases, mind you if you think things are bad now wait until this government privatise royal mail, the price of sending a first letter will be a hell of a lot more than it is now.

Actually, no. In France, they pay €0.55, which is 47p, BUT, if not for Gordon's puny pound, would be closer to 33p.
