NJKMRS, even though it looks similar to the 3 you wouldn't get them mixed up in the flesh, for one the new 5 is huge compared to the 3.

STi04 is right that they grow on you. When I first saw the e60.I thought it was horrid and questioned the sanity of anybody who bought one. A few years later I bought one myself and to this day still think they look fantastic.

The f10 has a certain amount of the e39 about it which to me has aged beautifully. A well looked after e39 still looks so sharp and smart like a well tailoured suit. But horses for courses and all that, we'll never all like the same things and the world is a better place for it.

Now that is just plain mean LOL. But as I've said before its the difference between growing old gracefully or having a midlife and buying a Porsche...unless of course I buy one in which case it'll be cool:lol1:

Surprised the speckle is showing blue as much as it is, but that's what happens with fluorescent lighting. I WILL admit i'm a bit let down you changed your mind on the interior. :( I get why you changed, but having a light colour interior gives the impression of a more quality car to me....

Nothing wrong with black in this sort of car(our's has black leather, as i hate the way light leather can look shiney after a few years), but when you stuck the pics up of the 5er at a car show, with the light leather, it looked plush!

I couldn't agree more. The oyster leather really raises the bar, the inside looks bigger and far more luxurious, it really makes it seem like a huge jump from the E60 interior.

I'm kicking myself now and really wish I'd gone for the oyster with anthracite trim.

My wife said the black interior looked sportier and was more practical, why oh why did I ask her??:wonder:

I think she was worried that if I had the oyster leather I would ban her from sipping cappuccinos in the car and applying make up:lol1:

Parents had an X5 35D. Silver on the outside, beige leather on the inside and although 90% of buyers wouldn't go for this combo and the seats stained easily from the likes on jeans etc, i would go for it myself. Just seemed a more expensive motor when inside, than the black affairs we test drove.

I'd leave the grill as is too. When you go black, it's too much like your making a statement and the all silver/chrome grills have for the high end versions imo, or at least the newest version/facelift. Comes across as a classier car with the chrome/silver. :)

I would make sure the dealer sees those and contributes/pays for the detailing.

Thats what I tried John but they said they would machine polish and then supa guard it themselves. You can imagine I didn't want them doing that and I was going to pay the detailer anyway. So I've had to swallow it.

Ding - I'd still demand money back and say that if it arrived new like that, you didn't trust them to "fix" it. Muppets.

I really like the F10 but the Touring is HUGE! Saloon looks better. Agree on interior - black looks good but Oyster would have raised it higher.

Inlaws have a black X5 with beige leather - looks nice. I've got terra leather and a black exterior - also goes very well (and a bit unusual).

Definitely claim for the damage and don't take no for an answer - they've just had £60k off you. It's the principle that matters.

Never really been a fan of BMW's.

And for me, BMW design has gone backwards. At least the last 5 Series stood out, made an impact. This design just look bland and boring, probably like it's owners.

Bangle got a lot of stick for his design's, but they stil look better today than the new designs of the 3, 5, & Z series.

BMW are going the same way as Audi. The 5 series just looks like the 3 series. With Audi, the A4 looks like the A5, & A7.

So what do I say when they reply back that they would have removed the scratches themselves. It's difficult for me to say what we all feel which is that we wouldn't trust them with our cars.

There is one tiny scratch that the detailer said he has left for now because he would have had to polish quite hard and take off some of the paint. I suppose I could use that remaining scratch as a bargaining tool?

I'd appreciate some advice on what approach I should take tomorrow when I collect the car. I must admit I'm a bit soft about things like this. If I can get some money off it would help as I had forgotten my insurance company insists on a Tracker so there is another expense there

Ding - you have photo evidence. They've supplied a car that's scratched. Would you ask a builder to fix a bodge job? Nope, you'd get another one in and charge the original builder (I would anyway).

Speak to the group manager, tell him the story. They'll pay for it if you handle it properly. I get loads of money off stuff in that way!

Jim you are spot on. I mentioned it to my wife and said I might ask BMW for a contribution and she was livid and insists they should pay all of it and compensation for upset feelings:lol1::lol1:

I've got better about complaining too (in a constructive way), but it isn't natural to me, or it seems to many of us.

£150 discount even would give you far more than that in terms of warm cuddly feelings in terms of doing business with them again I'm sure. They'd be fools not to see that.

But start by asking for it all with the photos. I wouldn't let a dealer wash my car unless I spent time watching them wash another car first and inspecting their equipment LOL. It is better to say don't wash it!

Presumably you've not paid for the car yet?

Just tell them plainly that no one that understands car paintwork would let a main dealer polish and treat their paintwork. It would be like having a GP do your anaesthetic and lap chole, or having a urologist realise that giving PR voltarol to someone with renal failure isn't a good idea.

Do it whilst holding your plastic but not actually handing it over LOL.

And find out who runs the group - if you can't see him direct, name drop like he's someone you know.

Double name technique works well - "I know the group MD John, (insert apologetic laugh for not being formal enough) John Smith pretty well" - shows familiarity without being too pally.

If miffed, I always find out who is overall in charge and use them to my advantage. I reckon it's got me back over a grand in the last couple of years - all legit claims but all needed a bit of "prodding."

I've been there tbh and i doubt very much the dealer will give you any discount.

A new car ALWAYS needs some amount of correction by the dealer. They will probably never really do as good a job as a split new car deserves, but they pay the wages of the valeters in there workshop, so they'll look at it as though they don't need to pay "extra" for someone else to do it.

Our new Mini Cooper S had a polisher on it and took the coating down to the primer and also faithers RS had fallout all over it. BMW technician checked it out(part of the same group) and he commented on it being "the norm".

The dealer offers you what they see fit. If you don't want it, you can either take it as is, or point blank refuse the car.
