insurance nightmare!

my insurance co has just quoted me £1,130 for my renewal, last year i paid £420,i have shopped around and have managed to get it down to £767, chuffin rip off if you ask me,but if that wasnt a big enough kick in the balls, ive been told that all cars need to be insured even my old 98 wagon that im breaking, what is the point, its not as if its going to drive it self and kill someone or do any damage to anything,if you ask me its blatant theft from allready greedy b*****ds. perhaps its time to stand up to these people and tell them to go get fooked!...your comments please

Who told you that? If its off road not being used then no insurance needed. It may change in the future, but at the moment not needed

Dougmy06wrx 15 February 2011 06:49 PM

+1 im sure that when it's sorn there is no need for insurance.

my neighbour told me,and he is adamant that it is true, and will be law from 1st of april.:wonder:

Dougmy06wrx 15 February 2011 06:57 PM

I think the new law is that if it isn't sorn then it needs insurance, but I'm not sure.

I think it has to be either or! (sorn or insured)

Just had a quick look but didn't read it all:

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...t-are-off-road.

Doug

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...LA=DM&CRE=Furl

That's the government website.

IainIainWRX 15 February 2011 07:07 PM

Quick search on Google:

"From early 2011, a new law will mean that the registered keeper of a vehicle must keep it insured unless they've made a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification)."

All robbing bar stewards, I know they say it to do with all the no win no fee claims etc, but come on, surely the government should help out.

Dougmy06wrx 15 February 2011 07:10 PM

Since your car is already sorn you won't have to pay to insure it.

I read recently that the big 5 or 7 insurance companys or whatever were caught sharing information ... includeing thier customers names, addresses and how much they were quoteing them for insurance....

acstua 15 February 2011 08:17 PM

over a barrel :|

and as for uninsured drivers putting the price up, it all sounds like a way of making prices even higher....

i worked out once that ive had maybe £1500 from my insurance company since '98
and ive paid around £7000 in insurance, they are doing well off me so far...

Your right doug,no insurance needed if vehicle is sorn, but still cant believe you have to insure a car if unused but taxed:eek2:

Dougmy06wrx 15 February 2011 09:21 PM

Yeah tell me about it, just another thing to pay for. At least you don't have to worry anymore.

Hope you point it to your neighbour he is infact wrong haha.

Isnt britain great, you do the right thing, pay your taxes, insurance and every other form of daylight robbery the government can think of,and then they want more off us to pay for the illegal imigrants to drive their audis and bmws around to get to our jobs, who are the cnuts, the government, the illegal imigrants and criminals or us for putting up with it?

Untill you hit another car, and the 2 (lets assume there is only 2 people in there) each claim whiplash, so 2 x £5k cost to your insurer, plus damage to the other car, plus hire car costs, plus damage to your car..... and every penny you've given the insurers is gone.... and then some.

acstua 15 February 2011 10:20 PM

aye i knew someone would come up with that argument sooner or later :)
and its true, they take the risk and it only takes one large crash in my new motor (touch wood) and thats them out of pocket
Insurance is a risk and all that :)

in the one crash i had, everyone told me to claim whiplash, but i didnt have it so didnt claim... although i do wonder how many people would be that honest :d

still when it comes to something thats enforced by law, and the way the world is, you gotta put money on some people making alot more than they prob should

which is prob why you get such better prices than most of the big insurance companies ;)

swinsop 15 February 2011 10:27 PM

Just had mine through... 799 last year and now they want £1735 at renewal! I have another years NCB and they reward me with a 1k increase!

Moley 15 February 2011 10:28 PM

The biggest problem with the un-insured drivers is that if you're hit by one it's down to the company who last insured that car to pay the claim.
The insurers can take the un-insured driver to court to re-claim their costs, but the judge is likely to make them pay the money back at £1 per week, so the insurers won't get their money back for many many years.

Some insurers just don't want to insure performance cars anymore, so are pricing themselves out the market come renewal time

acstua 15 February 2011 10:31 PM

didnt know that ? thought it all came out of some pot :s

Nope.

Big problem currently with youngsters setting up a policy so they can get an insurance certificate to tax their car, then they cancel the insurance a week later.
Even though the company only insured the car for a week they are still liable for any costs that driver has.... even though they cancelled the policy.

It needs the judges/courts to crack down on un-insured drivers. 6 points and a £100 fine isn't nearly enough IMO

acstua 15 February 2011 10:46 PM

aye been seeing that on motorway cops etc

they wont give a damn about points or the fine tbh, they will keep driving either way
if they are going to drive uninsured they will drive unlicensed

def agree they need to figure out more harsh ways of treating them!

swinsop 15 February 2011 10:53 PM

Not looking forward to the renewal for the STI!

stu turbo 98 15 February 2011 11:03 PM

Its a bit of a nightmare like MOLEY says idiots canceling policies, whiplash claims etc,i had an accident with a guy who pulled out on me,and my insurance co were practically telling me too claim for whiplash, even calling me every other day to see if i had changed my mind after telling them i was perfectly ok,its just not fair on the motorist or insurance companies, the big question is how can it be sorted out,so it doesnt cost honest people?
