Fuel pressure regulator
I have just received a second hand fuel pressure regulator for a 1997/1998
turbo, it doesn't have a pressure gauge, so just wondering how you can tell what the pressure is set to, also does a mapper need to adjust it or just where you get it fitted? It's not fitted yet but going on with a few other bits soon. Many thanks |
Adj. FPRs normally have a 1/8" NPT port on the front, so as to be able to screw in a gauge for setting the pressure (get a 100psi/7bar glycerine filled one).
|
okay, I will have a look thanks.
Will a garage be able to fit it and ajust it or do you need a gauge? |
You'd need to get the gauge to fit into that port (using PTFE tape to make petroltight). You need to get your mapper to set the pressure/map it (after fitting it).
If you don't intend to get it mapped (with any other mods), you're wasting your time/money, as there'd be no need to swap the OEM FPR for it, otherwise... Unless your OEM one has given up the ghost of course. :wonder: If you must fit it, then std pressure is 3bar with vac pipe removed. When the vac pipe is reconnected then it should drop and stay at around 2.7bar when idling... |
Thanks, I have bought it with a view to get it fitted when I have the money to fit a few other bits I have got together, and I will definately be getting it mapped.
I will have a look for a gauge, any recommendations where to get one from? |
I got mine off eBay, and API had no issue with setting up my Fuelab FPR with it, prior to mapping. :) Indeed, the type of gauge I bought was recommended by Dave .... so I got it lol.
I'll try to dig out the link to the gauge that I bought - bear with me.... |
Much appreciated

thank you for all your help
|
Don't buy it UNTIL you know if your FPR does have that 1/8" NPT port though!
Otherwise it won't fit. |
Bookmarked this as I'll be adding mine too before Duncan remaps it, but will need the car running to get it on and off trailer and into garage so needed to know the standard pressure.
|
Okay, will find out before.
Thanks, if it's not for any reason, does that mean I can't fit it? |
2.7 bar sounds low, mine sits at 3.3 bar ABOVE boost pressure according to my Defis.
|
i may be wrong but i only thought that you needed an fpr when u fitted bigger injecters?
|
Your car already has an FPR.
An aftermarket FPR is only required if you want to extend the range of your injectors beyond their design limit. An aftermarket FPR without a pressure guage is not much use. I have a new guage here £20 plus postage subject to what make your FPR is. New Fuelab FPR is £140 plus postage (mini). |

Cute little thing, it is lol :D |
Harvey, the guy I got it from said scooby clinic had fitted it originally, howcan I tell if it is standard or after Market?
|
Std OEM one looks like this:-
Pressure Fuel Regulator SUBARU IMPREZA GC8 http://www.prostreetonline.com/catal...eregulator.jpg It can't be mistaken for any aftermarket type. :) |
Cool, will compare it to what I have, thanks

If it is adjustable it is not O/E.
|
The adjustable bit being the screw?
|
whereabouts is it on the engine, the one I have bought doesn't look like
the one in the picture. I went to have a look at mine, but didn't know where to look. It's a phase 1.5 engine. Thanks |
Left hand side near one of the injectors.
|
if you dont have the gauge hole in the fpr then you can get inline ones to go after the fpr i would always recommend to get a gel filled gauge
|
Take a picture of your engine bay... if you have one fitted it will be easily identifiable
|
I have a gauge if you want it. brand new, as thought the fuel lab one is bought didnt come with one so bought it at the same time. £5 i am guessing postage would be about £2.
|
I will put a picture up after work tomorrow
|
Location of the OE FPR is on the end of the fuel rail closest to the bulk head on the driver's side and it will have a black rubber pressure line running to it from the inlet manifold.
If you are fitting an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, which is adjusted by screwing the threaded bit in and out using an Allan key, then you will need a fuel pressure rail adaptor. I think you need somebodies help here local to you or when you next visit your favourite supplier. Fuel pressure guage posted £7. Yes please, can I have second dibs if your man does not take it. |

Here's a pic of my fuel lab. No gauge though so I'll have to sort one out.
Can I just screw the gauge in? Attachment 54794 Attachment 54795 |
