TD05 20G offer what power ?

Sorry for the thread as im sure there is already one that states my answers somewhere, but I cannot find it.

What will a 20G offer max power, and what spool are we normally experiencing.

Thanks,
Rob

PS, mine will be standard 2002 2.0 STI UK Bugeye, mods yet made but expcting CAI, 3" decat, maybe bigger injectors, obviosuly larger turbo and remap.

Hi Rob on standard WRX is too lagy, but on STi will be good power for money.
Power from genuine 20G you can expect around 380-400BHP(420bhp you can do with methanol)

Thanks Jura mate,

That is what I thought. I posted this thread up https://www.scoobynet.com/wanted-18/...t-you-got.html and a guy emailed me saying he had a TD05 20G, and quote "ran it right to 450bhp easily".

I said "I would be surprised to see a 20G running 450bhp mate, in fact speaking to my mapper only a week ago and he said 400 is unlikely on most cars"

He said I should check my facts, hence here I am :)

Really, what is required for a straight swap pal ?

phil739 03 January 2011 10:22 AM

something to do with the housing needing to be ground out in order to clear the TGV valves on the inlet manifold. ????

this is just what i read on another thread

not sure if that is needed for your car tho,

interested myself in the answers

Thanks for pointing this out mate, If nobody answers this on here than I will phone Brain at CAMS tommorow and find out for us as he is likely to be undertaking any future work for me. What car do you have?

I believe the MD321 will bolt straight on which looks to be the favorite at the moment.

ive heard newage are harder to fit, and it is funny when some say they are good for 450hp, i know i wouldnt buy off anyone who said that, lucky to get 400hp on one afaik

Northern Nick 03 January 2011 10:45 AM

The 20g is a straight fit to 5 speed 4 bolt bell housing whether newage or classic iirc but on the 6 speed cars with I think its 6 bolts, you need to chisel/grind one of the lugs for the bolts thats extra to the 5 speeds. Not a great issue but i think its the same with the MD321?

Other mods required on newage is the coolant pipes need a little tweaking to fit with tmic. Everything else works, even the oil feed from vf35 .

I got a genuine 430hp on 10% method and NF. Made 385lbs ft and 1bar boost at 3000 rpm once neutral switch was working correctly.

This was a 2002 UK STi

f4la k 03 January 2011 01:24 PM

i made 370 on v power and 410 on a 25% meth mix on an afp 20g...

98 2.0 sti....

Mine was an AFP20G also and boost was 1.7bar :)

alcazar 03 January 2011 01:37 PM

I know of a Harvey Smith modded one that ran 422 on V-Power.

I have it on my 2.5 now;)

dunx 03 January 2011 01:43 PM

I can confirm that one of the lugs on the bellhousing needs grinding away for clearance... mine was an MD series turbo.

also found this while fitting to a newage bottom end on my classic, its either the the water pipe or the oil return that fouls on the block,

Rob

Doesn't the GT30R need a rotated setup with an external wastegate ?? Cracking Turbo though :D

Shaun

jura11 01 March 2011 09:21 PM

Same like i was toying with 20g/MD321 and i've brought Blouch Dominator 3.0XT-R for great money.
And GT30 is good turbo, which use GT30 Ball Bearing above mentioned MD321,SC Range,Blouch etc.

Hey Shaun....

Flipant Answer - Who gives a crap im not fitting it :lol1:

Serious Answer - I believe its a OEM style bolt on GT30, I though the same as you, but Brian re-assured me its the same bolt on with a 3" inlet ;) I think this particular one is simular to the MD321 range.

Bit more info here to my mods https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...-a-budget.html

eggy790 01 March 2011 10:23 PM

on the subject of turbos needing modding to fit, does anyone know what needs to be done to fit an md321v to fit? heard the head needs to be grinded or something? i'll be fitting one soon, so would be good to have a heads up.

MattyB1983 01 March 2011 10:56 PM

My 20G made 382BHP on pump fuel at 1.6 bar of boost.
When we compared graphs from the previous week (when I was using a VF28) we found the 20G spooled up earlier and held boost longer.
Direct fit for a classic but you will need to knock a tiny bit of the block away.

Eggy, Im speaking to Brian next week when I drop my car off, so I'll ask him for you if you like... How come your changing from a H to a V mate? Sounds like your making the car into a fully fledged track car thats fit for road use?!?! Mine is going the other way, Road car for track use....

Rob

PS I'll call for the H Brace Sunday if thats ok?

eggy790 02 March 2011 09:01 AM

sunday is cool rob, just give us a shout anytime, you have my number and yeah if you could ask him that would be great.

I dont have a H rob, i have bought Duncans MD321V, currently running the VF48. Getting syvecs fitted in the next few weeks and i'm pretty much good to go after aproper clutch.

and i think your right about that, lol trackcar for road use at this rate. i only want to break the 500 mark. may runa race fuel map with syvecs though for a little more.

grahamc 02 March 2011 10:10 AM

Well to the original question... I got 355 on the dyno but duncan found a problem when mapping for the road, so that figure should go up by 10-15.

Current mods are
850 injectors
1st decat
Panel filter
Fuel pump
20g
Remap

Next set of mods are:
Fmic
Gt spec headers
Full induction kit
Map tweak

So should be fun :)

LegacySTi 02 March 2011 10:13 AM

I would say 370area being realistic. Some cars do little bit better.
