My W Plate 206 GTI (MY00 I think) had drilled pedals and alloy gear knob.

Alloy tank cap was part of the MY01 upgrade - changed to a rear mounted bee sting antenna, 16" alloys, different seats a few other bits (AFAIK!).

The_Gza 10 April 2002 03:03 PM

Chris - you're right mate. My X plate 206GTI came with the same:)

wilf 10 April 2002 03:18 PM

Hmmmmmm interesting.

I swapped from Scoob to 206 GTi and then back again.
Reason I swapped back was cos of lack of straight line speed roll and ride.

It annoys me that people slagged them for the pedals being close and brakes being sharp. YOu adjust quickly to both of these. I didnt find the pedals that close and I have size 11/1/2s.

For the money you can pick up the 206 it is a bargain and (fashion aside) I reckon its better than the Mini.

Still looks like a birds car though and is made to the usual french standards. My mate has a 4 month old (from new) GTI and the thing is literally falling apart. Started rattling after 1 month.

The_Gza 10 April 2002 03:35 PM

I had my 206GTI for 18 months from new and it was far more solid and less rattly inside than my Scooby. Plus it was lowered with Eibach springs too!

ChrisB 10 April 2002 04:39 PM

I did 12000 miles in my MY00 206 GTI - interior was much better than my MY99 Scooby by far. It didn't squeak and rattle all the time.

"I didnt find the pedals that close and I have size 11/1/2s."

Me neither - never hit the wrong pedal once and I'm no ballet dancer!

That 206 RC/GTi (or whatever they end up calling it) will also have revised suspension & steering and a 6-speed close ratio gearbox. The 180bhp engine is a 2.0 litre VVT lump, also to go in the 307 soon.

I would get some pics of it but the bl00dy serve is down! :(

As for Peugeots...

Mine is an MY98 S Reg 106 GTi and that does not rattle or leak and is built prtetty damn well really. It's built a lot better than most cars actually. Yet my sister has had 2 Saxo's from new and they both rattled.

Also, my feet are size 11/12 & I'm 6' 3" tall, I fit in fine. :)

I have a diesel 205 and it has more rattles than mothercare!! but then it is 14 years old:D

Rich D 10 April 2002 05:47 PM

LOL

Sure that's not just the engine?! ;)

Carlos The Jackel 10 April 2002 06:12 PM

:D the engine has done over 120,000 miles and is tremendous!! 1.9 diesel - the rest of the car is not though!!!Its like re-entry into the earths atmosphere over 40mph:D

Robertio 10 April 2002 07:11 PM

My parents 206GTi has the drilled pedals and alloy gearknob, never noticed the petrol cap though.

Does the 206GTi have a go faster stripe as standard? their one has a nasty red stripe, but I'm hoping that was added by a previous owner.

ChrisB 10 April 2002 07:14 PM

Mine was dark green Robertio and only had black door inserts / protectors on it from new.

mel 10 April 2002 09:44 PM

yay!

been waiting for it, i was hopeing they'd make it look a bit different tho, a little more like the WRC would have been nice

FreeT 11 April 2002 08:28 AM

Do you know when there is to be a 307 GTI? That range is really strugling in performance speed.

Rich D 11 April 2002 01:04 PM

Not for a while longer yet according to Peugeot but it is on it's way and will share the same 2.0 litre 180bhp engine & 6 speed box as the new 206RC/GTi.

It will never be as good as the 306 GTi-6 was though. :(

This weeks Autocar contains some details of the long awaited 180bhp 206GTI.

A couple of interesting points:

New 206 is called the "RC" in the spy shots, but will be called the GTI in the UK as "RC" is apparently too rude for us! :)
It is intended as the replacement to the existing GTI, not an additional model as Peugeot don't believe the market will support two GTI models in the lineup
Extras include bucket seats and new 5 spoke alloy design (similar to the 307XSI design), plus a twin tailpipe
The timescale mentioned in the article is Spring next year
Price is expected to be around £15,000
Expect around 180bhp and 146lb/ft torque

All this is lifted from what I can remember of the article, so don't take it as gospel ;)

There were a couple of spy shots from a dealer convention in France http://members.fortunecity.com/erict...c-pictures.gif

The car looks very similar apart from coming with the bumper and door inserts now colour coded, and the front grill section under the bumper is now black mesh.

Also shown was a 206GTI in the Blue colour which is currently available on the 206CC

The article did mention that the 206 "would come with drilled pedals, alloy gearknob and petrol cap" and that this was an improvement from current models - not unless I was imagining these features on my old 206 it isn't!
