WRX miles on a tank ??

hi guys, i have a 2001 WRX 2.0 turbo and on a full tank i can do about 300 miles driving normally, but just want confirmation that this is the average output, or should i be getting alot more ?? :wonder:

deanb1980 07 December 2010 09:36 PM

300 is very good mate your doing well i only get 280 on a run

Carlh 07 December 2010 09:48 PM

I used to get 300. Once I even had 360 !!!!

Now Im getting a miserable 260.... lol I dont know if it the weather or coz of my dump valve playing up. Im getting more flames than usual and its a bit juddery. See my thread about the engine management lights for more info

If yours is a 2.5 you probably would get 350-400 as theres more low down torque but the 2.0 wrx lacks a bit dont get me wrong still quicker than most but 2.5 is much better and i did notice a few flames when we went to studley lol i was quite shocked

jaseman 07 December 2010 10:53 PM

Thanks for the feedback, feel a bit assured now.

ritchiritch 07 December 2010 10:59 PM

mine a hawkeye sti totally standard and i have never had no more than 220 miles from a full tank. I heard that scoobys were bad on fuel but never thought they were this bad! worth it though.

i get all my torque from 3,500-6,000 (365lb per ft). Frightened the life out of an RAC bloke yesterday as I can around a roundabout and powered it up before changing into 3rd and BANG. Flames galore and he jumped a mile. lmao.

If i drive say, 50mph, i can get it nearer 300 (and I think my dump valve is letting me down too, so that needs to get changed to a better one), i'll probably lose the flames but gain a lot more fuel gain.

But who wants to drive at 50mph in a scoob... (less its a 50mph or less road of course officer) lol.

Flaps 10 December 2010 03:17 PM

In my 04 WRX I used to average 245 between filling up and the light coming on, I once got 310 on the motorway though.

In my 07 STI the best we've seen so far was about 240, or so the wife says :lol1:

zs_phil 10 December 2010 04:08 PM

Just over 400 when i had mine all motorway miles from hull to newquay

ayesy 10 December 2010 05:13 PM

Im running a bugeye 01 WRX with 260 BHP:luxhello: and get 280 to 310 now its been mapped:thumb: but only 240 to 260 previously:(

You should be getting way more than that, think you need a remap, your not getting the full benefit of the available Torque. (get bitten by the Black Widow) :thumb:

I used to get about 250 - 300 in my old WRX but I only get 150 - 190 out of my STI I have receipts from TSL off previous owner to indicate a remap but I'm not happy with performance or MPG so I want it checking out in the new year.

sh1t lagamorph, you're either driving 150mph everywhere or thats really poor mpg bud. Its worth chucking some money to improve the mpg, you'll get that money back in no time. You do lots of little journeys to the shop? (or worse still, do you let the missus drive it?) Helen uses my car and i lose 3mpg straight away. Am sure she's racing...:wonder:

Lagamorph 11 December 2010 12:43 PM

Tbh my yard is only a few miles away so I drive off boost the entire journey takes about 5min at most early in the morning. I know the 2 litre units are thirsty girls but I find this extreme.

What should a Hawk STI be getting? :wonder:

that'll explain it, never gets fully warmed up, have you done an mpg check when on a run, you might be better to drop the original map on it unless your fully modded, or you could have a dual map, pm me we could meet up and i'll have a look.

I just got 175 out of a tank but i've got a bit of a lead foot as i've only had the car a month.
Reigning it in a bit but still don't get much more than 200.
Its been re-mapped by previous owner so prolly needs looking at.

Hawk sti wil get me about 200 in the city and 250 motorway.

It really depends on how much you give it - they are if i tend to drive sensibly...ish

Do you want to rent her out as a chauffeur?

djandyg 14 December 2010 11:02 AM

Mines pretty standard, get around 240 miles to a tank - but that mainly just driving around town, very rarely do many long journeys.

BrownPantsRacing 14 December 2010 11:28 AM

I got a 2.5 Hawk and I only get 240 miles on a tank (24ish mpg). But do get 30-31mpg on a long run.

Got the wife an RX8 and she only gets 19mpg every day with 24mpg TOPS on a run!

Makes mine look bloody good! Hahaha. :)

You wouldn't want to. My lips get very sore through having to bite them the whole time to avoid getting into trouble for "making suggestions".

The only time I didn't have a problem was when we (she) had to drive from Leatherhead to the Shell services just south of Luxembourg (the city - about 350 miles) to fill up with very cheap V Power as it was too early in the morning for my normal topping up point at Ashford.

OK, so I'm tight but when I discovered the price of petrol in Luxembourg about 6 or 7 years ago It is always my first and last point of call if holidaying abroad!

Just to add to that, I had a particularly sedate drive recently and managed to get to 299.5 miles before the fuel light came on - I was quite pleased with that but frustrated as I was aiming for 300 at that point!

Is yours a standard STI? What was the 'sedate drive' like? Long motorway miles at 70? I'm still trying to get to know mine so any tips would be appreciated :thumb:
I'm feeling a Top Gear syle challenge. Everyone starts at the Prodrive factory and we see who can go the furthest :lol1:
