Hi there these turbo's are Chinese fake/knock off,you will be very disappointed(if this turbo will last 1 year you will be lucky, probably can't make big boost and probably can't make power, some people these get refurb/rebalancing and after this will make boost and last longer),best way if you are source genuine AFP TD05-20G.
Check feedback of Toyosports on eBay...

daijones 03 December 2010 07:59 PM

Or talk to Harvey on here about one of his hybrid models. Will your hawkeye wrx cope with the power and torque from a 20G, in terms of the engine internals and the gearbox? Some say above 350/350 starts risking breakage, particularly of the engine internals

KAS35RSTI 03 December 2010 08:16 PM

The chinese copies & ebay turbos are not worth it trust me on that. Seen one last 200 miles due to oil seal failure at 0.9 bar.

just123 03 December 2010 11:36 PM

These fakes are prone to blowing up and spitting its guts into your induction system causing huge amounts of hassle

not looking good then

thanks for the replies folks:thumb:

Why would you not want a VF43 / VF48?

What power are you after and what's your budget?

budget not endless thats for sure

i was comparing the cost of a used vf43 against these new 20g

i want to be running at least 360bhp :thumb:

TonyBurns 05 December 2010 09:52 AM

Well for 360bhp your going to need some decent supporting mods, ie brakes, clutch possably, gearbox may or may not take the strain due to the torque, engine reliability (the 2.5's are not a good block to tune in standard form), just little bits you have to be aware of before going down this route.....

Tony:)

Butty 05 December 2010 09:55 AM

Used VF43 IRO £350-£400
Used AFP 20g £500

But the 20g is more than likely needing bigger injectors or the fuel pressure bumped up (later is cheaper) and possibly a decent air intake.

The 20g will hopefully give you some 30 hp more than the VF43, while only losing out torque below about 2700 rpm.
I found the VF43 felt like it started to die off after 5000+rpm but the 20g gallops up to the rev limiter - this is on the same engine as yours.

Dynamix may be able to shed more light on pushing the VF43 to the limit as he started off with one before moving on to rather bigger things.

Same cc, not the same engine as yours ;)

so you have experience of both turbos :thumb:

"galloping up to the rev limiter" sounds like my kind of thing lol:lol1:

thank you sir

Butty's car is an STI, yours is a wrx, the STI internals aint much cop but they are better (just) over the wrx's, and they are also semi closed deck blocks, yours is open deck, then your clutch isnt as good as the STI's, neither is your gearbox, you need to take these into consideration as doing something wrong will lead to something drastically going wrong :(

Tony:)

whiteknuckleride 05 December 2010 12:19 PM

i already have a exedy uprated clutch fitted and from a previous post an uprated walbro fuel pump

cheers Tony

Scooby Arthur 05 December 2010 03:15 PM

You WILL need better brakes and to get 360 better intercooler. VF43 holds boost to 6000RPM, you wouldnt want to push the WRX 2.5 past that.

and with more power you need better breaks to stop it or you just might find your self in a bit of trouble.

If you want to get picky then yes, the WRX pistons have a smaller bowl volume and smaller head chamber volume - this just alters the CR from 8.2 to 8.4, otherwise all parts are the same and both have semi closed blocks.

It is the gearbox that's the weakest link though.

The Andy Forest website has a realistic breakdown of mods needed for each lift in power.

i know what you mean but you are wrong

more power does not need more braking

the braking distance from 50 mph is exactly the same if you have 200bhp or 900bhp

the braking distance from 70 mph is exactly the same if you have 200bhp or 900bhp

the braking distance from 90 mph is exactly the same if you have 200bhp or 900bhp

FACT

but thanks for your concern:thumb:

as post above - no i wont on the brakes:lol1:

but with ref to the intercooler i agree and am fully aware of uprating the intercooler - thanks for the advice:thumb:

Hi mate :thumb:

VF43 every day of the week on your car - it is awesome and have several 2.5 wrxs that I have mapped that have done a few years at 350bhp without issues. perfect turbo for the 2.5 and a great upgrade on the wrx.

20G will take you into things breaking territory and with your experiences I would be inclined to stop shy of that - the extra 20bhp (if it performs to that level - which i doubt it would) for the 20g isnt worth it.

VF43 or VF48 all day long for me - I love them :)

no mate

during my youth i went to school

simple physics

uprated brakes make you stop quicker therefore reducing your braking distance - having more power does not reduce your braking ability !!!

reduced driving ability causes accidents not standard brakes

bless you and your patronising comments

but hey - you spend your dosh so you can tell ya mates ya got some wopping 8 pots on the front lol

i think you will notice my thread is simply asking about about a turbo - not brakes, colour of my motor, size of my exhaust or anything else

but again thank you for you input:thumb:

that puts pay to the 20g then

anyone know of a VF43 or VF48 for sale??????

Good luck!

Brun 05 December 2010 09:49 PM

You WILL need better brakes
Utter and complete tosh - better brakes are only required if you driving style demands it. I would have no problem building a 400bhp+ car and retain the std brakes as i simply would not require anything better!

Your standard brakes will stop you once, maybe twice from that speed, after that I wouldnt trust them to stop me. Surprised you want 360bhp to do 90mph as well.
