Six speed conversion
Hello all,
What would i need to convert my 98 sti type r to a dccd six speed other than the box? Can i use my existing rear diff (R180 i think)? And i presume i would need different rear driveshafts? Also does the dccd connect up to the existing loom and still displays on the instrument panel? Cheers, James. |
you need the right rear diif ratio if your using a jap box it wil be 3.9

its an r180 but you need to now what ratio your six pseed is whats the gear box code

I havn't got the box yet, Its just an enquiry as i'm thinking of converting to six speed and was wondering if any components i already have on my type r can be used in the conversion.

your drive shafts and rear hubs are fine but you be wise to by the box and rear diff as one job lot as then you now you have matching box and diff as for the dccd im contorls i dont now but it shoudl all fit have a chat with some companys on here like api

Thanks for that mate, i'll take your advice just to be safe and i'll probably sell my diff to help with the funds.

Why would you sell the diff just to get another R180 3.9??
you have the option of getting a JDM six speed box. This way you can keep your rear diff, shafts ect.... If you want longer ratio's six speed with dccd then you will have to swap the rear diff and get a >MY05 uk sti box and rear diff. This come at a premium so be prepared to spend a liitle more that the <MY05 box. I believe you will have to change the prop for the newage sti (or classic auto) the gear box cradle (or atleast the six speed mount) and the gear linkage. Mike |
oh and you can just plug in the loom for the dccd and it will work ;)

you should get the box, prop and linkage for around £1800-£2k depending on mileage I would think.
