forged pistons
Hello all, just a quick question for you all, if you were needing pistons like I do for my ej257, what brand would you go for? I have a aunty in the usa who is visiting over xmas who can bring them for me. Brands are cp, wiseco, mahle, je, arias. Any experiences at all? Cheers guys :-)

Had good experiences with the CP pistons on a 2.5 car. Are you going for drop in replacements or hone to fit?
|
Will go for hone to fit. Very very light scoring on bores
|
Would avoid Wiseco's then as there quality control is not very good and the size between each piston in a set varies quite a bit. Also found CP's to be much quieter than Wiseco's hope this helps.

Perfect mate. Appreciate your advice

got CP drop in's in my 2.5 sounds like a stock engine
|
Ta for replies, been doing a bit of googling, on a us scooby site some say mahle make the best pistons in the world? Cant figure why the are the cheapest then! Also found that mahle own cosworth pistons? Anyone had any dealings with mahle? Cheers guys
|
Got the mahle's fitted in my hatch. there is a slight bit of noise off them but there as strong as anything.

I have used Wisecos for years in other applications and always been good. Im using wisecos in my new 2.5 build and have no worries about using them.
If i were in your position i would be buying JE, theyre some of the finest pistons out there. As for pistons being quiet, largely that is down to the builder and clearances used. Personally all the forged pistons you have listed are going to do the job just fine, its is extremely rare for a piston to fail due to a defect. I would make my choice based on your required CR, availability and piston bowl shape. |
I am using Mahle in an EJ257. Very quiet and very low oil usage.
