Can any iPhone4 users confirm ?

Seems a bit hard to believe to me, but a mate on FB just mentioned it and sais it works on his.

A hole in the iPhone's software allows any user to bypass the security code on the gadget allowing unauthorised use of the holy handset.

Orginally exposed by a bloke on MacRumours' forum who had apparently been fiddling about with his jailbroken phone, the simple hack has been shown to work on any iPhone jailbroken or not.

So if you have your iPhone handy try this:

Lock it with your usual security code, then tap the screen on the 'make an emergency call' button. Enter ### and "call" then immediately hit 'lock'. You should then have access to a number of the phone's features, including the call history address book and the photo app. There may be more.

Here's a Vimeo video of the hack posted by a user in Brazil.

Cheers for trying that. Just had another mate with the i4 confirm what it gives access to. Phone, phonebook, voicemail and a few other bits. Oops. Im sure they will release a patch almost instantly. :thumb:

Tis a bit shabby, suprised its taken this long to be uncovered. Or is it OS4 specific ?

As for bluetooth and Flash...... ITS THE DEVIL ! :lol1:
Serious though, I hope they get that sorted. Some people saying its no big deal, but say that when someone cains your phonebill

john banks 26 October 2010 01:51 PM

I might not be abel to pay my bill if someone cains it?

JackClark 26 October 2010 02:22 PM

It's quite a hefty hole, quite surprising as one of the methods used to activate the first iPhone was very similar.

I hope this speeds the release of 4.2.

The good news is that nothing has been found on Android yet, getting all those different phone's updated will be a task.

Mitchy260 26 October 2010 02:44 PM

Favourites, recents, contacts, keypad, voicemail.

Can't get into photos or anything else.

What iPhones is this on, on what OS ?

Mate with an i4 said the following..

you get acess to the phone side of the iPhone, you can see the contacts list, recent calls list, and can make a phone call! how ****ing bads that, oh and go into contacts, edit one, select a new photo for the contact from library and you can see all the photos on the phone!!!!!! daaang

oh and acess to visual voicemail, so can hear all the voicemails
This is on an iphone 4

Mitchy260 26 October 2010 03:16 PM

Snazy, I have an IP4 with latest software.

It only allows phone calls, voicemail, and viewing of phone book, nothing else.

Missus has tried it on 3GS and she says it changes the language:wonder:

Mitchy260 26 October 2010 03:19 PM

Just realised the edit contact allows you into the photo album to view all the naked pics

JackClark 26 October 2010 03:44 PM

My 3GS does it. I can feel a few choice demo's coming on, alerting people, you know.

If you're super paranoid.

Sync your contacts then delete
Export them to to a text file, print as .PDF
Dial the numbers from iBooks.

Sync then delete your pictures.

I'll just keep an eye on mine.

Snazy 26 October 2010 03:45 PM

Making phone calls and viewing pics is enough of a worry for me lol

Cheers for letting me know what it allows access to.

Is the wifes 3GS running OS4 ?

lol

Boro 27 October 2010 07:47 PM

I have the 3GS on iOS4.1 and can't make mine do it.

After pressin the lock button it returns to the slide to unlock screen.

+Doc+ 27 October 2010 08:20 PM

Don't leave your phone lying about?

Hysteria1983 27 October 2010 08:29 PM

If someone had the chance to use this 'hack' it would mean my phone was lost or stolen. So someone getting my contact out of there would be my last problem.
Especially as it's 'backed up'. I would me more worried about replacing my phone.

Boro 27 October 2010 09:00 PM

Whichever way you look at it, it's not meant to do it and could be a PR problem for Apple, which they need like a hole in the head lol.

Darc174 27 October 2010 09:08 PM

Works on my 3GS running 4.1 but you can't ring anyone in the contacts list

It states "call ended" everytime

Interesting how everyone gets a slightly different result. I wonder what is causing all the variations.

Darc174 27 October 2010 09:36 PM

It's odd but needs to be looked at asap

It does seem to be iOS 4, specific. Can't get my hands on the 4.0.2 device to see if it happens there, but can confirm I have done it on a 3GS and a 4

I don't have any devices running 4.2 yet, think the debs might, will check with them tomorrow

Have to admit it is a rather large exploit, though I am sure apple will plug it soon. Has gizmodo one on a rampage about it yet? :D

TonyBurns 27 October 2010 11:06 PM

Apple come up with some good ideas but they need to sack their software department :lol1:

Tony:)
